please help...good cone intake at reasonable price

I was wondering if its worth getting a regular intake. I'm really low on cash so i'm not lookin at a cold air intake but a regular one. What are some good brands and how much do they cost. Thanks

Go to www.procarparts.com or www.lightningmotorsports.com. You can find some good stuff.

no no no....

make your own, costs $25. go to autozone, pepboys, etc. and buy a cone filter (i got an apc filter at pepboys, $25). then take out your stock airbox, look inside it, and you'll see this copper piece. it's perfect for mounting the cone filter. just drill out the rivets that hold this piece in to get it out, bend the piece a little to allow the cone to fit over it, bolt it up, and your done. here's pics of mine:

my dad and i cut off the mounting tabs, and rewelded our own custom pieces to raise it up higher. you can see in the picture where it's actually starting to rust, that's because i never got around to painting it. it's made by OBX, but any FSTB you buy for the VE isnt going to fit, unless you do what i did.

I use to have a FSTB just like the one in your pic a few years ago, but I used washers (pretty ghetto) to raise up the whole mount. It doesn't give problems with the intake manifold until going over 40 mph...but raising it any higher would give some problems with the hood. How close does yours come to your hood?

Alright. You need the 3" adapter if you are not going to make one yourself. You need a matching 3" inlet intake, either K&N or the generic, it doesn't really matter. Both intakes are cone intakes. K&N might be available at your local parts stores but you would have to check. I was in PepBoy's today and they carry APC intakes, but I'm not sure about other stores. Any more questions?

I have the JWT pop charger with velocity stack. Nothing significant oabout it, except he cool added sound of WOT acceleration. I'm going PR/Cattman CAI next.

I have a Tenzo intake that I got a great deal on from another generous bbs memeber. Like Mr Rose said, it's nothing too special, but they do sound nice at WOT

Thanks again Jason

Re: k&n

I love my k&n. I bought the adapter on ebay for $30 I got the filter at napa for 59.99 It makes the car sound sooo much meaner. The attatched file is a picture of it. It was money well spent.

Re: Avalonracing.net

no offense guys, but i cant believe anyone is paying more than $50-60 for a cone intake! it's just not worth it at all. a cone intake gets you maybe 3-4 hp at the most, regardless of name brand or whatever. and the sound everyone is talking about, i have that on my $25 "pop-charger"
