Power steering pump
Power steering pump
I went to autozone today and saw they had a power steering pumper puller. Do we need to use a puller to get the pump out?
And how do you guys take off/tighten the pulley nut on the PS pump? that thing keeps spinning

Didn't you wonder why it wasn't mentioned?
they almost always mention when any sort of a special tool is needed in the FSM.
so.... no mention = no need
BTW it's a power steering PULLEY puller, not a pumper puller

I changed the power steering pump on my max a couple months ago. I did not need a puller; a couple of 12mm or 14mm bolts that can be accessed through the holes of the pulley, and it was out..You also have to remove the two hoses that connect to the pump..High pressure hose took a bit longer because the bolt was really tight..
The pump I had came with a pulley, so I didnt need to remove the pulley. But if your new pump doesnt come with a pulley, I recommend removing the pump and the pulley together, then attach a chain wrench (they have rubber ones too), or something similar to hold the pulley in place while you loosen the bolt..
I think it may also be possible to remove the pulley by tightening the power steering belt super tight, and then breaking the pulley bolt loose..but I'd rather use the first method.
If you get stuck lemme know..
