Sunroof rewire/mod? help

Anyone know how to take out that safety feature where the sunroof stops a few inches before closing? would it be an electrical or mechanical thing? Anyone done it?

probably mechanical. if sun roof motor working, then no electrical problem. you probably have a problem with link & wire adjustment.

sealed with silicone you can get in a tube I think because it leaked it looks like an after addition not a factory one.

It looks mechanical...the rails have a little indent for the sunroof to stop then you have to press the button again.

Is that what you're referring to?

My guess would be the drain tubes are clogged with debris, the tubes exit the car behind the back wheels....

You could use a coat hanger or similar device, then stick in the hose to unclog it...

If it's an aftermarket one u r fooked.
most aftermarket ones are improperly installed and as a result they leak.
They probably siliconed it to stop the leak because they had no other choice besides getting another sunroof installed properly for $$$

That's why I don't have one...I would LOVE a sunroof, but I don't trust the aftermarket on this one...

wtfmate! I never knew that!

No wonder my car didn't get soaked when it downpoured and I left my sunroof on the 'vent' position!

If I end up having my full body restoration and everything is running like new mechanically (which it almost is) I will def get a full MINT junk yard sunroof assembly and have it professionally installed on my GXE. You were wearing Oakley visor/sun glasses when I met you..you seem to be able to afford having a professional installation so I encourage you to do so and keep the GXE-5 rollin'

My GXE might have been a base model for 13.5 years but its not gonna be one much longer.

my guess would be both electrical and mechanical. there might be some type of limit switch to let the electrical know where the roof is at to stop it. It be a good idea, but I havent heard of anyone doing it.

funny how others on here seem to be oblivious as to what you are talking about. press the button to close and it stops at 3/4 the way to make sure that for some reason you dont have your hand in the potential dismemberment area

I'm kinda curious as to WHY you'd want to disable a potential safety feature for your sunroof? Granted, it can - at times - be a PITA and a nuisance. But it's there for a reason. I'm sure someone's hand/nose/extremity will thank you for it eventually.

Food for thought... do the dishes!!

i have got to meet Caidwen and i have seen her car its a GXE maxima with an aftermarket sunroof and it is sealed with silicon and i have said to her if she wants a good working sunroof to see about getting the actual nissan maxima sunroof installed to have a good sunroof but everyone knows that comes at a cost as it is not cheap to have a dealership or anyone install such a sunroof that never came on that car unless it came from the factory oredered that way. as for her car she got a great deal for the cost of 2300 dollars as the motor has been fully rebuilt and the engine (VG30E) is one of the cleanest stock maxima single over head cam motors for all that i have seen.

Buy a whole sunroof assembly and any sunroof parts you need from some one parting out their car and then have some one with skills put it all in. Shouldn't be too bad and its much better then and after market setup.
