BOSE question....yes i know.......
I tried searching but I did not find anything really helpful mostly pertaining to 4th gen. I have a '90 with the BOSE and the front driver's side speaker is dead. The other 3 work fine. Would this be an issue with the headunit, the speaker, or the amp? Any reccomendations? I just want to replace the one speaker or whatever. Not looking to rip out the system.

It's probably the amp, but the HU's arn't really any good either. So it could be that. From my understanding the stock HU isn't compatible with aftermarket speakers, so you'd have to replace the speaker and the HU. Which means you'd probably end up at least replacing the other front speaker.
I could probably mail you my old passenger side bose speaker with [when it was in the car at least] working amp for shipping. If I still have it...

would that work since mine is bad on the driver's side? The car was is wrecked right now but it didn't touch the door. I guess the first thing i need to do is pull the door panel off and check for power at that speaker.

Its 1ohm, most speakers are 4ohm. All 4 of my BOSE speakers are shot so ive been looking into this. lol
If I was you, and the other 3 speakers sound GOOD. I'd just find a spare front speaker w/ a good amp. Cause if the other 3 work fine, its not the amp behind the HU. Or the HU itself.
Could even just be shorted out/loose wiring.

what i was asking was if the passenger side speaker would fit in my drivers side door. Due to the compatibility issues and since my other 3 are good and i already have a cd changer and i am on a budget i just want to get that one working.

idk if it would fit perfectly - but that doesn't mean you couldn't throw it in there anyway. The speaker should fit fine I'm pretty sure but IDK about the amp
EDIT
From what I can tell the speakers are completely interchangeable and I have both of them there in decent shape. The amps I still don't know about. I gotta track those down. They might still be in my car...

Ok I took the door apart and pulled the plug that goes into the speaker/amp housing. I don't remember the exact colors but there were 4 wires going into it. Only one of them, the red one, has power is this correct?
Edit: I just thought of something, does this mean that this speaker is not getting any signal? If this is the case does this mean that I have a bad channel on my headunit? And if so couldn't i just splice my right channel into my left one for the signal?

I have exactly the same problem as the first post. driver side speaker doesn't work. I don't care about that as much as the headunit. Its the cassette BOSE. The problem is that it won't take my cassette adapter for the portable cd player. It wont hold it in. Nothing is clicking.
Now i have an aftermarket sony headunit that i could put in there but someone says that the speakers wont work with anything but the bose? Is that true. I'm taking friends on a trip friday and i'd like something to work.
Heres the problem with the radio. When you touch the ****, really loud feedback comes through the speakers and the volume is always quiet no matter how loud you turn it up. Just by tapping the volume ****, feedback comes thru. Any suggestions? I already have the radio out. Thanks

Just put in new speakers with the new headunit. Ive heard of some people running the bose speakers off a after market headunit but its not reccomended. It will shorten the life of the speakers or headunit...
6x9's will fit in the back, and you can make 6.5's fit the stock housings. Or just take some plywood and make a new mount, its not that hard. Run some new wire and your set.
I was actually given my entire setup, but you just need some wire, and 4 speakers to finish your setup. I just have a cheap JVC HU that sounds great.
any way toss all the bose in the trash...its old and it will all die soon.

I don't want to trash mine since it still works fine and there is a 10cd Changer directly wired in somehow. When I turn the CD changer on the display on the headunit goes off and the cd changer is playing so, there is no FM modulator. Plus it sounds really good for a 17 year old headunit and 17 year old speakers.

hey, why won't the speakers work with the aftermarket headunit? I put a sony in and it works fine but nothign comes out of the speakers. Why is that? Also, is there a way to remove both the amp and speakers? I can take the speakers out but it doesn't seem like the amp will. seems like its permently attached to the car. I don't see any screws holding it in. Any help?
I'd like to remove the whole thing in one piece (don't cut wires or break plastic) to possibly sell. The speakers are fine but the headunit is bad. I can't seem to get a break here.

An aftermarket HU will work with the speakers, it just isn't recommended because the Ohm level is to low for the amp in the HU to handle.
gapboi, I have the 2 front speakers if you want them, but I don't think I have the amps anymore, sorry.

If its that, and you wired it right. Just go around to all 4 speakers, replace them with aftermarket and unplug the amps at each speaker, theres some wire harnesses at each speaker, make sure to unplug those.
then it should work.
