New eBay cold air intake for the VE

Has anyone tried one of the new cold air intakes for the VE on eBay? I haven't seen these in the past on eBay, only ones for the VG. Has anyone bought one and tried installing it and seen if it fits? It seems like a great price, just drop the crappy filter and put on a K&N.

Here's the link:

Odd you havent run across them because they have sold them for years. They started a little over 3 years ago and I bought one to prove to a guy that it was indeed for a VE because he was saying it was for a VG. the add actually said it was for a VG as well and I emailed the seller to straighten him out.

Then last year or the year before one ebay seller stole my pics for their ebay auction and I had to email him and have it removed.

anyway her is a link to my 93 site with an update of 2-7-04

So do you think this intake kit actually fits the SE and can just bolt on without any cutting or anything?
Also, on your setup it looks like you didn't do any cutting, do you think this kit could be installed the same way?
Would it be better to cut using the templete instead of running it up to the bumper in order to reduce the length of the piping and friction on the air as it travels through the pipes, or does it matter?

you have to cut down below near the battery. IIRC, you enlarge the small hole already there.

Jeff92SE and MrGone developed a CAI that goes below the headlight and has less cutting and keeps the air filter a little higher. I don't think they have any more made up, though.

I didn't know it at the time but I guess I did the Jeff92SE CAI way...

I bought a 1993 Honda Accord Cold Air Intake and did minimal cutting with leftover parts for $22 w/ filter. (I originally got the kit for my VG, so it provides a CAI for VG's and VE's.)

With the leftover S Pipe:

I assure you, there is cutting involved. I haven't done any of the cutting myself but IMO, I think a template would be the way to go.

Seriously Doubt it. You will have to remove the splash guards from underneath of the drivers side of the car though.

It might be a good idea to put together the filter on the tube and tighten it down, then (after cutting the spot behind the battery for necessary fitment) Lift the Intake tube from underneath the car while someone holds the tube above. I did this the second time around and it made it much easier than putting on the air filter underneath the car.

Just my .02

no its not necessary. My fender is off in my CAI pics because I was doing body work and had nothing to do with the CAI.

You have to completely disassemble the old air intake. Then once you have the parts to mock up, just see how much room you'd have for it to go down into the fender. Cut what needs to be cut. (Mine Goes into the fender at a different location than yours will, so the only cutting I had to do was VERY minimal, and got away with some metal snips) You may need a dremel or something like it.

Overall, Intake setups are not very hard and once you go look at it you probably won't have a problem.

if you have the CAI that goes into the fender well like mine just use the template I have for your hole cut. I used a hole saw when I did mine for a perfect clean cut.

The guy that made the template for me just used his punch to make the hole. WHen he punched his first hole for the saw he realized how easy it was and just went in a circle with the punch until he got it all cut out.

If you do the one that goes under the headlight (I think thats a better design BTW but never used it) then you will just have to trim a little under there.

nope my bolt holes aligned perfectly. The only problem I had with mine were the bolts that hold the MAF to the adapter. The were not correct (not long enough and didnt have nuts with them) but I had some nuts and bolts so it wasnt a big deal to me.

you can always take the MAF off and mark the adapter with the correct holes and drill them out. Since its aluminum its pretty easy to drill.

it depends what years you are talking about. the 89-91 SE has the same engine/transmission packages that all GXEs (VG engine) have (with the exception that manual was not offered on the GXEs). It's just the 92-94 SE that is different, because of the exclusive VE engine.

Pretty sure you have to go "Custom" unless you want to pay out of the **** for a name brand one, (Like $250 or so)

It's been discussed before in This Thread

I used a 1993 Honda Accord CAI off of ebay for $22 shipped and custom fit it. It is more explained in this post
