Power Sunroof into a non-sunroof car

Hi
Ok Ok stupid question time can you put a power sunroof into a Max that didnt have one in the first place? and if so how hard would it be to wire up. Was the sunroof a factory install or dealer install? There is a max at the yard I could pull a sunroof out of. Has any one done this? I did a search and could not find any info on this.

ps
I been on this site for awhile now and have found it very helpful its the first place I look when I need to do something to my Max

That sounds like a pretty tough job. Most 3rd gens come with a moonroof, so this is something that I haven't heard before. I have seen a Max without a moonroof, but the owner didn't really say he wanted to add one.

First, you would have to cut the hole in the roof. Then, you would have to wire everything. Plus, you would have to take apart the old one and figure out all of the wiring (unless it's already wired somewhere).

You would also have to get the headliner, and all of the parts that are different between the two.

For me, that job wouldn't be worth it at all. If I wanted a moonroof that bad, I would just sell my car and buy one that has it.

Truth
most aftermarket or non-originally installed ones will leak.
If you want moonroof that badly, buy a max with one in it already.

I have seen quite a few Maxs w/o out sunroofs. My first one was a SE and had one. Second one was a GXE w/o but it had cloth and no Bose so I am guessing it was a lower end GXE. This is my 3rd it's a GXE with sunroof, leather and Bose. I just think cutting a whole in my roof to intall a sunroof is not a good idea. I am not sure but the roofs are probably molded different. For example when you open the sunroof you can see how the sheet metal is folded and stamped where the glass seals.

If you want to go through the hassle of cutting a giant hole in your roof, might as well try to make a big long window like the 6-gens have. I'd rather have that myself.

It can be done. But is ALOT of work.

Need to get a pattern off a maxima with a sunroof (junkyard).
After it's cut perfect, you need to weld a 1/4 lip down and seal it real well so it won't rust.

You'll need a helper mounting the sunroof, that sucker is heavy and awkward.

I would think it's worth it because I don't really like all that wieght up there. Just me...

Do you have any body work skills? +welding skills.

My 93 has an aftermarket sunroof. The car origianlly didn't have one but a shop installed it and it has its flaws. It occasionally gets stuck in some places, closes whenever you turn the car off (I like to have it vent when it's hot out to relieve some of that heat inside the car), and because it didn't come with the car, it is probably the reason that my headliner is falling in the back. They had to cut a hole in the roof to install it and lower the roof of the car inside by about an inch. I like having it but it's not worth the hassle. Fortunatley, it is over 14 years old and it has never leaked however it does rattle on occasion.
