What's she worth?

Hi guys.

I have an '93 SE with the 5-speed. It's got 220,000 miles, still runs strong and the clutch/gearbox are solid as well. Stock, no mods.

Interior is gray velour and is perfect. Body is 95% straight but the white paint is old. Could possibly be polished out, but still ...

California car with zero rust.

Brakes and shocks are fine, could use a brake system flush and bleed.

Issues: No highbeams -- must be the switch as all fuses, bulbs and relays are ok.

Inner left axle boot is shot. Odd wobble in the steering. I've had it inspected and was told it only needed an alignment. Tire wear is advanced on the front left but oddly there's no pull.

There are leaks in the power steering system and on the engine.

I haven't spent any time on the forum but I would think the 5-speeds are somewhat rare and maybe a bit sought after.

Any ideas as to price are really appreciated, thanks.

No more than $1500. I'd part it out if I were you.

that's terrible advice... the car still runs and needs some work to keep it going. it's not like it has a blown motor/trans or needs major bodywork here. not to mention if he does not have the room or time a part out is probably out of the question. i've done it before and am doing it now with the max and it's a huge PITA.

as mentioned check edmunds or www.kbb.com for estimated value of your car based on your location. also check your local classifieds/autotrader/craigslist to see what they're going for...

Edmunds > KBB.
KBB gives unrealistically high values IMO

Put it on Local Craigslist and expect to get around 12-1500 bucks.
Parting it out would be too much of a headache.
You have a 14-15 years old Nissan Maxima w/220,000 miles, don't get your hope too high.

I didn't mean that he should do part it out because it is old and needs work, I meant that I believe that he should do that if he plans to sell it. I was NOT telling him to sell/part out the car. That is his decision, not mine. Personally, I'd keep it since you will get more out of it by driving it till something big happens, i.e. the engine blows.

I think you would still get more out of it selling it whole than parting it out.

You wouldn't be getting a lot of money for an engine and tranny with over 200k on them, especially if the engine is leaking fluid and grimy.

Just a guess, but I would say $2k would be the absolute maximum, more like $1200-$1500 like NismoChi suggests. If you want full value, you would need to fix things like the leaks and axle, probably get new tires, too.

full value won't come from repairing it, the mileage scares the daylights out of most people. the only people it doesn't are either southsiders who don't want to pay squat for the car, or people looking to roll back the odo and resell the car.

I think you should keep it and spend a fortune on mods.

Personally, I would just fix what need to be fixed and keep driving it.

I have 185K miles on my car and is in very good condition, but I won't get much for it, for the mileage reason.

Get as many miles as you can out of this car, save your money for your next ride.

$1200-$1500 sounds about right.
