Engine Oil

What type of engine oil do you guys recomend. I was thinkin about goin with Royal Purple but that seems a little to pricey. How many quarts does the VG take?

The FSM states 4-1/8 US qt. (With Oil Filter) 3-3/4 US qt. (Without Oil Filter)

You Be the judge, I always went with 10W-30 full synth in both my cars. But it RARELY ever goes below 20 degree's or so here in Florida.

Castrol GTX 10W-30 right now for the summer months, 5W-30 any other time...The way I see it, the VG is an old-school motor, so it's not really necessary to run expensive synthetic. Once I pick up something more modern and powerful (probably a GTO), I will most likely run Royal Purple.

4 quarts of Havoline or Valvoline 10W30 here in South Carolina. Always changed every 3000 miles with a Fram or Nissan OEM filter. No need to run synthetic oil on an engine/car this old although I do run synthetic oil (Mobil1 5W30 or 10W30) in all my other newer cars/trucks.
I don't think you need to spend the $ on Royal Purple...but you make the call. If your engine has gasket leaks and is dripping oil, Royal Purple would be a waste.

I use 5w30 because it gets pretty cold here.

I normally use Mobil 1 because it's cheap at Costco, but I the last time I changed it, I didn't really want to go 100 miles to Costco, so I just bought the NAPA synthetic, which I think is made by Valvoline. I also use the Toyota filter on mine, since it's a VE.

I run 10w30 in the summer and 5w30 starting september. I buy whatever is on sale and change every 4000-5000km. I've tried the high mileage stuff, and I really can't say if i's worth the extra $ or not.

I usually buy a case of whatever's on sale. Got a 6 pack of Pennzoil platinum synthetic for about $12 last time with a rebate. The casheir deducted the amount of the rebate at the register, so I didn't have to bother sending it in I fill my vg with 3 1/2 quarts, and top it off a couple times between changes. Royal purple is spendy, money better spent elsewhere imo.

I just put in some castrol high mileage. It's pricey but when it's on sale for half price I'm going to grab a case otherwise castrol gtx 5w-30 should be good. I also read that the vg takes 4 and 1/8th but when I went to fill it I found 4 to be more than enough.

5w30 Quaker State Peak Performance

Helps maintain engine life
Quaker State Peak Performance is fine-tuned for vehicles in their prime. It helps maintain engine life with:

• Resistance to thermal breakdown
• Protection against harmful deposits
• Security in changing climates and temperatures
• Resistance to oil thickening and consumption
• Control of oxidation

The result:
A clean-running and long-lasting engine.

Quaker State guarantees your engine with a 10-year/250,000 mile limited warranty, even if you change your own oil.

Only oil I have used on the maxima for past 5 years still runs great. Plus its only 8.65 for 1 gal container at Walmart

i use penzoil high mileage.i switching over to synthetic blend( my own blend) imho i dont how much of these so called synthetic blends are truly synthetic blends it could be 20 percent snythetic and 80 percent crude oil and vice verse.so i make my own i changed my wifes oil and put two quarts of regular and two quarts of full synthetic since it only takes 4qts. My car is'nt do for an oil change yet. but i have no problem with penzoil its alright with me

I use Pennzoil 10W-30. I've always heard rumors about Pennzoil not being good, but I owned my car for over 10 years now and that's the only oil I used and the car does not burn any oil.

Mobil 1 full synthetic 5w30 with K& N oil filter. Fram oil filters on Ve's have been said to do bad things. When i first bought my car the guy before me was using fram so i right away did an oil change and put on a K & N oil filter.
