alright, heres another problem i have. my speedo will randomly cut out. usually only does it when its wet or humid, but in the past few days it would work for about 2 minutes when i first started driving, then it would die, 25-30 minutes later, works like new. is this the speed sensor? i mean when the speedo dies the odo still works so i'm hesitant to replace it.
i even went as far as to drive down a road that i know is exactly 1 mile, the odo was right on. the speedo, not so much, it would read between 1 and 15mph. someone mentioned it could be the connection to the guage, how would i check/fix this?
thanks in advance.

If you odo is still ticking over then it is most likely a dry joint on the solder connections on the back of the dash. If you are handy with a soldering iron then it is a simple fix. Look around the micro on the back of the dash for any solder joints that are looking dodgy or (best option) resolder all the joints on the dash.

Brent.

Pretty simple. Just be patient with it. You may find it easier to take off the plastic housing around the steering column when you come to pulling the dash out.

If you have a manual it details the process, and if you search here there may be a previous post. Yes, you are removing the upper part of the dash that contains all you gauges and so on.

i mean like the upper part that goes above the guages and clock and goes to the windshield, just because that kind of scares me.

No, not that part. Sorry if I confused the issue. All the parts you have to remove are easy to get at and work with. From memory you have to remove the centre console trim (4 screws), 2 screws at the top of the gauge cluster (if you look towards the ceiling of the car you will see them, 4 screws on the steering column housing (if you choose to remove) and then 4 screws at the base of the gauge assembly.

That's it from memory. I may have missed some screws but if you are careful when pulling the gauge assembly out you will notice these straight away.

Make a note of what looks you disconnect and where they plug into the back of the dash.

Hope this helps somewhat.

Put aside half a day. It shouldn't take you that long but it allows for any "unforeseen circumstances". Whilst you have the assembly out, just check the connectors for loose wires etc also. Easier to do it whilst you already have the assembly out.
