JOC how long do you guys intend to keep your 3rd gen Maxima? Mine is currently 12 yrs old and I am hoping to keep is as long as there are no major repairs or replacements that needs to be done, such as tranny, etc.

I hope to have mine until it dies.....

at 500k+ miles!! (*knock on wood*) my dads 1st gen('83) lasted until 1995, and it was in pretty bad shape when he first bought it, but he fixed it back up and it kept running like a champ, until it finally konked out in '95, I'm pretty sure it was only a bad starter, but my dad said "I'm done with this car..." and he sold it for $100! (since the paint and interior were really bad off and the mileage was WAAAAY up there) but prior to the starting probs the motor was still kickin' *** and I'm pretty sure still would be today. I'm hoping my 3rd gen does the same, modded out and all, I hope this bad boy takes me through college and keeps going even after I have my TT Supra and/or Z! (*knock on wood*)

Until the wheels fall off.

I could see myself getting the engine/tranny rebuilt if necessary too. Im hoping to get at least 200K mi out of it first. 58,000mi to go!

I hear ya Jeff91SE. Same here, I am hoping to pass the 200K miles with my manual tranny. I've got 75K to go. BTW I like that Maxima ad that you have, do you think you can email that to me? Yellowkillerbee@aol.com. Thanks Jeff.

I plan on keeping my Max for at least 3 years(until I graduate college). Then as soon as I can afford something else I'll get rid of it.

i gotta have the record here....

It looks like I have less than 24 hours left with my Max.
A little over 1 year of ownership and had nothing but problems most of the time, I still love the car, I think it looks awsome, handles great (when it's fixed) and fast enough.. But, it has to stop somewhere, 106k miles, tons of $ invested in repairs and even more is needed. I have a deal worked out for a little over 5,000$. Money made will be a downpayment on a low milage 4th gen or maybe something else, we'll see.
For the time being my car will be an 87' Mercury Sable

So NYCE, you're getting rid of it!?!?

damn that sucks man...but I hear you on the freaking "endless" repairs! I'm hoping everything will hold up on mine too! (*knock on wood*) but I remember all the probs you used to talk about on the other board...oh well hopefully you'll stay in the fam with a 4th gen! good luck man!

Whats up dude, thanks for the kindly words man, I appreciate it, really
But, I don't know if you saw my post on the "other" board, turns out the guy who I worked out a deal with didn't fall through, he calls me today saying he took his drivers license test yesturday and he failed it, so he can not drive the car if he buys it.. Ofcourse he's lying his *** off since he is a mechanic (if u can call him that), about 30 years old and has no drivers license? And Matt also mentioned, even if he has no license he can park it somewhere and not drive it until he gets his license. Whatever. I wrote For sale on the rear windshield with my # and year of the car, had like 5 people either call me or ask me on the street allready, and it hasn't even been 12 hours. I REALLY do not want to sell it, if the car was in good mechanical shape... I'd keep it... (quote 2pac) "t until the end of time" My problems are still there, and there are more that need to be taken care of. I'm also scared of the demons of exhaust studs, possibly the tranny again.. etc.. we'll see though... It's certainly cheaper to fix this car then get a newer one. But I don't know the cause of the ****ing problems.. IE, poor fuel economy, failed inspection.. other things i'll find.

fuel injectors going out on 1991?

Hi Jeff,
I've got a question for you. I've got the same car you have, and I wanted to know if you'd experienced any fuel injector problems. If so, how much is it costing you to get them replaced, per injector? How many have gone out on you? How much time passes between? Any info you can provide is much appreciated.

I will keep it forever! or as long as I dont crash. And even if I were to win the lotto I wouldn't get rid of it. How about two V6's, one in front one in back and all wheel drive?! But then again, I guess that's what dreams are for.

Me and Max forever...

I love my Maxima too much to get rid of it. I will keep my Maxima forever. Even if I win the lotto. I might buy a new one but I would still keep my first Max. One day it just might be some sort of classic.
And as Nissan said in there add campain in Australia when the 3rd Gen Maxima was released in 1990.

Re: Me and Max forever...

Man oh man, boys and girls, owners like you guys make me so proud of owning a Maxima. I once thought (even when I first had my 89 Maxima) that such bonding and fellowship among owners and also cars only exist in selected cars and thought I was the only one who felt so strong about the/my Maxima, particularly the 3rd gen, but each of you guys made a believer out of me! Each passing day, I feel even more proud of being an owner of my Maxima : and a member here! Keep the love boys and girls

200K

If I can get 200K out of it, then I'll be happy. If I can get 250K out of it, then even better. I'll keep driving it long as I can.
