I hop in my mom's 90 SE and upon ignition the engine has this deep growl, kinda like the sound of a cone intake/filter charger. The sound is there on acceleration too. It sounds like it's coming from the front of the car but I want to say it's like a hole in her muffler or something. This car has no mods or anything with approximatley 100,000 miles on it.

Thanks

If I were to get under the car tommorow morning, would I be able to see it? Or does fixing this problem require something more involved.

that's what happened to me yesterday. I start the car and I put it in "R" and in starts shacking. I thought it's an exhust leak, but the muffler shop said it's the back exhust manifold. so I don't know if it's cracked or it's a stud or what.
so I am gonna try to see what's the problem tomorrow morning and I will keep you posted.

Y-Pipe

I had a similar problem. Muffler shop said that the stock Y-pipe on these cars go bad. The part inside the heat shield crystalizes due to enclosed heat, and breaks. I got an aftermarket y-pipe that does not have the heat shield.

deep growl

Hey, just ran across your post and it reminded me a lot of my sick injector....your description was almost exactly the same as mine. I even went around back to scope out the muffler. It also ran very rough with slight loss of power. As it turns out, yup, the #2 injector went ill. I had it replaced and all's well.

Hope that helps?
