Hello to everyone,

I have just bought a 92se/ five speed. I have checked the motor out it is in good shape, I checked the compression, looked a the plugs, checked all of the hoses, every thing seems fine. Well I went to the track and was thinking I would get something like 15.4-15.7's and all I hit was 16.4's@84mph, that is what a stock GXE should run not a SE. And yes it does have the VE30DE motor. I'm not new to drag racing, I have taken 280zx's in to 14's with very little mods. The way I see it is I must be down about ~30HP. And does not really seem possible because the car runs so smooth.

Thanks
Jason

Exhaust leak perhaps? Old plug wires, slipping clutch. intake problems, bad MAFS, knock sensor, or a host of other things.

A couple questions?

What were your 60ft, 1/8 mile ET/traps, what was the temp/humidity and the elevation? Did you hot lap the car or allow cool down periods? Where were you shifting and did you finish the 1/4 in 3rd or 4th gear? My suggestion is to run 91+ octane and bump the base timing to 19*BTDC, clean your throttle body and do a tune up.

My best 60' was 2.360
best 1/8 was 10.643
best et/ was 16.432/ best trap was 84.54
Both hot laps and not, no change
Right at Redline
3rd gear finish
93 octane/ with rac gas 110
timing set to stock? with this type of engine where do I adjust the timing?
Thanks for the tips I will remove the intake and clean out the throttle body. Do you think it might be a cloged cat converter?

Thanks for those that are trying to help! And to "stealth TT" thanks for the help *******!!!

It could be a ton of things. When my cat was clogged my car was very sluggish and it would occasionally stall out.But a stock VE 5 speed should hit atleast 15.6 czar runs 14.8 with just a pop charger and advanced timing.

Man, I'm getting really worried...I'm looking to buy a 93 SE 5sp that I test drove today...but I'm seeing some really sad 1/4 times being posted. It's scaring me cuz I ran my gf's 93 Altima GXE 5sp stock 16.3@83, and that's with mad wheel hop all through 1st. I'm losing confidence in VE's....

Now I've got some stuff to look into, considering my VE runs like "ca-ca"!!
