So goes my dilemma: I've been searching all around for a 92-94 Maxima 5 speed for the last several months. So far nothing except a purple one which I (maybe foolishly) thought I didn't want because I really wanted one in Superblack or Superwhite instead...

NOW, I'm faced with the choice of a SILVER max. The car is described as being in good condition, no accidents, leather interior, and 200,000 kilometers (about 125,000 miles). Price is 7000 Canadian, which I consider a great price.

Problem is I'm so darn indecisive about it! I'm thinking of driving by after work to look at it, but what if I really like it?? Then I'd buy it but maybe still dream about that black one that got away..... (silver is just so... generic I think)

What do you think? Anyone (or users) have pics of a silver Max?

Uh. Ve 5-sps are so damned rare, you had better be fairly flexible in the color dept. Condition of the paint/mechanicals/body is more important imho.

Most of the 3-gen colors are nice. At least the se ones were. I've seen some hideous light metallic green gxe maximas that I would say NO too.

True, I did imagine a scenario where I would find a black 5sp and be all happy and stuff but it'd be a basketcase or screwed up somehow. Hmm, more to think about on my way there...

When I first started looking for a Max, I really didn't want a Pearl White one. But man am I happy. I'd say if you can find a VE 5-speed you think is a good deal, buy it!

And Silver? Personally I think it's a great color for a car.

Thanks, that's encouraging! Yeah, the idea is slowly warming on me. It's just that my parent's minivan is silver and so is my faithful rustbucket Honda (also from parents). I kinda fell hard for the bad@ss black look you know? At least this Max sounds loaded - he mentioned "sunroof", which could maybe also mean "ABS" right? A definite bonus. It's a 1992 by the way.

I didn't get to see it after all today, but will definitely drop by tomorrow after work. Hate car dealers tho. Time to brush up on my "used car kendo"

It took me 4 MONTHS to find a VE 5 speed within 200 miles of me.. finally ended up with this red one.. I wanted something that wasn't so flashy, but this was what I got... I don't regret it at all.

You don't REALLY want black anyway... trust me!

My RX-7 is black, and while it looks SWEET when clean, if you drive it one day or leave it outside for more than a few hours after washing it then it will look bad again... Black shows EVERY scratch (I've scratched the paint with my 100% cotton shirt just trying to get rid of a finger print) You will show EVERY acid rain mark, EVERY time it gets bird crap on it you will have to race to get it off before it etches itself into the paint. Trust me, get a silver car and you will spend half as much time trying to keep it clean. Black looks sweet... but it's REALLY a PITA.

the only bad thing about silver is that it seems to be common for the paint on the side mouldings to wear off. Or at least thats what happened on mine and about 10 others that i have seen.

bah....

Well, THAT was a waste of time! When I got there the first thing I noticed were the wheels with the clearcoat peeling like nuts... then the lack of paint on the doorhandles... then the totally worn out leather on the steering wheel. When I popped the hood I noticed the original battery oozing everywhere. The paint was scratched and marked all over too. I figured it was driven by a single man who drove a lot while wearing fish-handling gloves.

Yes, it was a pretty sad sight folks. I genuinely felt sorry to see a Max in such a state. The ONLY positives was that the interior (except the steering wheel) was in great condition and the body had no actual dents.

Now I know why it's so cheap. I figured it was the relatively high milage at first.

I figure now I'd jump at a 5sp Max in almost any colour now, althogh black still tops my list (yeah, I know - I'd make cleaning it a religion )

Oh well, time to move on and keep looking.

(Sigh) even more taunting with your sweet sweet rides!! Seems to be more Maxes in the US, but I think importing would be more trouble than it's worth. BTW, interesting rims you have there Jeff. If I remember correctly those are Mustang rims right? What kind of rubber did you manage to squeeze under there anyway? Just curious about what fits.

235-45-17 work like a charm. No rubbing whatsoever. Yes 17x8 Mustang GT rims.
