Hey,
I know I'm new to the board but I already have a problem with my maxima. Occasionally (mainly while using headlights and wipers, sometimes just while driving) the radio will turn on and off, and in a strange method too. The fuse box seems to make a noise, the greenish led on the radio turns off and the sound too but the fm and st leds stay on. If anyone can explain this please help me out, I'm extremely confused by it. The car otherwise seems to be in perfect condition. Please understand I don't have much knowledge of cars. One other thing I have run into actually is that the fuse where the ABS looks like it should be is out. The car was in a minor fender bender from what I understand but there was no damage to it, and so I figure they might have yanked that fuse to work on it and not put it back in?

If anyone can help in any way shape or form you do not understand how much I would appreciate it.

Thanks,
John

check relay.

If your radio is a Bose, there is a relay that switches the amps that are mounted on the speakers. The relay is fixed to a bracket (with two other relays) behind the driver's side kick panel. You can hear it engage with the radio, tape or CD on/off. if you know to listen for it, and the sound could be easily confused as coming from the fuse box.

The head unit "switches" this relay, and the triggering circuit in the headunit can fail -- it did in mine. In mine, the display was unaffected.

You can "rig" the circuit for zero cost by wiring the trigger wire of the relay directly into a +ign or +acc circuit. That way your amps are always on when the car is running, whether the radio is on or not. If your problem is only he switching circuit, this will take care of it. If the problems are more involved, as manifested by your display acting up as well, other circuit parts of the radio may be switching off as well. In that case my fix will not solve your problem. It's worth a try though, as it does not adversely affect your head unit, and, except for your time, it is free.

Good luck,

John

If the fuse of your ABS is out than there is a possibility that
your ABS computer in the trunk has a electric problem

speaking or weird...

in my 93 se, my clock sometimes goes out, dims off or whatever, and a good flick to the screen will make it reappear most of the time. Has anyone ever had that?

dimming clock

Yeah, mine dims too. I either push the screen in or hit the top of my dash board and it will normally get brighter. I think I will take apart my dash, get the clock out, and check to see if I can repair it.

I used to get that dimming clock all the time, until i got rid of the unstable Bose cassette system & all speakers. Now that LED is brighter than the sun (kinda annoying really). Go figure.
