ok, i've heard all good things about that redline tranny fluid. does anyone think it'll help with my noisy tranny? my gears make noise, and my shifter is a bit stiff. will this stuff help? i heard it will.

also heard the same thing..

what kinda noisy is it? does it growl or whine?

if it growls, especially in lower gears, that's a sign of bad bearings (need a tranny rebuild).. if it whines a little at higher rpms, that's kinda normal, but you should watch for more signs of tranny failure.

Any gears making noise doesn't sound good at all. I hope redline tranny fluid solves the problem!

Ry,
My 5 speed made all kinds of noises too and I was on my way to my mechanic and stopped at a light and could not get it in 1st or 2nd gear. Ended up getting a new, not rebuilt, tranny. Been fine since.
Hope things work out for you.

a remanufactured tranny from Courtesy will cost about $2300 for a VE 5 spd.

I rebuilt mine at a local tranny place for $840..

that doesn't include labor to remove or install- just for the rebuild..

the parts on mine included all new bearings and synchros ($500 kit), then 300 in labor for the job.

Hmmm...

I beieve My bearings may be going bad because I hear a clicking (could be growling though) in 1st gear and maybe second. what causes them to go bad? I put Redline gear oil in when I got my ACT clutch installed almost a year ago.

any ideas on what I can do to prevent the bearings from worsening if they are going bad?

there's really nothing you can do, except keep the fluid at a proper level.. the bearings just tend to fail after so many million miles on the car, and you gotta replace 'em.
