Why do I keep hearing about advancing timing??
Hello, I dunno what it is but lately all I read is y/i/ADVANCED TIMING. I know that advancing the timing will give the vg a little extra power, but all this talk makes me think I'm missing out on something big!! I'm gonna be advancing my timing soon, so I will find out what all the rave is about soon enough.
Will timing advance be faster than a stock vg with the same modds?? Where did you notice the most gains from the advance?? What is the highest advance can I go(18-20)??

Well it's gonna be my next mod since I want to save my money. From what I've been reading it mostly adds low-end. People set it around 20 degrees. You should probably use a timing light just to be sure although I think some have just moved it w/o one. Here's a link:

im not sure if i advanced or retarted my timing
because one day i took my distributor cap off.. to clean everything and make sure everything is running ok.. i put it back on straight, but im not sure if that didnt anything to the timing..

i advanced mine in my ve to 18-19 degrees. i wanted to be sure i didn't go too far because then the computer takes over and retards it for me
anyway, yeah, i run 94 when it's advanced. i knocked it back when gas prices went up, but now i can advance it again, even though VE's are supposed to run premium anyway.
hehehe oops. anyway, i notice better throttle response and the engine seems much peppier. i was pleased, but it was a bizach being able to see the timing marks on the harmonic balancer.

timing marks
I have spoken to Nismo8780 about advancing the timing, and he broke it down for me baby style. The is one things I just can get though. Where exactly are the timing marks. I know there on the timing cover, but I looked and didn't find them. Maybe they are covered with crude.
Oh and from what I understand I have to turn the distributor when the car is on, but won't that shock me??? I guess if I use a towel to turn it that I won't get shocked.

the timing marks are on the crank pulley itself... there's a notch on the timing cover that you line up to the crank pulley notches when setting your timing.. each notch on the pulley is (I THINK!) 5 degrees. so "stock" timing should be the 4th notch (0,5,10,15) .. move your timing up one notch, by turning the distributor clockwise (looking from the top of the engine)
As long as your hands are dry, you shouldn't have any problems with getting zapped. Try not to grab the spark plug wires or ends.. grab the flat parts of the distributor where there aren't any wires. it won't physically hurt ya anyway, just don't hold onto it forever if you do get shocked.

not on my VE i had to fenangle that thing down in there before i could see the marks. and even then it was jumpin all over, i had to get it to stock timing before i advanced it. i had it way advanced and the computer was compensating.

Can anybody tell me the accuracy when installing the timing belt !
Is it possible if there is just a.. little off..?
My case, the car run just fine..(I think the timing is ?? OK ??..not sure.),
but it is not the same as before, there is huummm when it starts changing to the next gear (A/T transmission).
All these things just happen after the water pump and the timing belt changed.

hahahahhahaha yah i bought my self a timing gun today.. yah its VeRY in plain view.. omg its soo cool looking ^__^
