Fuel Pressure Regulator

Where is the stock fuel pressure regulator (fpr) on the vg engine, is it under the IM or what, I can't find it, anyone got any good picures or one. I'm pretty sure there is something wrong with mine, cause my fuel pressure is 48psi and my car wont run.

Mind telling us how you checked the fuel pressure after the regulator?

Gauge on the return line?

it's like, under the bleeder bolt on the UIM maybe 6" under that. See where the fuel rail and stuff is, and where the fuel line goes from the filter into the rail, it's down there. and there's a small .25" vaccuum hose connected to it out of the back of the UIM

I've got the pressure guage right after the fuel filter like the instructions on the autozone site say.

My guess would be you either bought a very inaccurate gauge,or you have a bad fuel pump,I've been on this board for quite a while, and have yet to see any thread conclude with the fuel pressure regulator replacement fixing any problem. And even if it is indeed a bad fpr,i seriously doubt it would cause a no start issue.

Question,have you checked for spark?

No, I haven't gotten quite that far yet. I was working on 5-speed swaping my 91 240sx when my maxima started to stumble really bad at about 2700 rpm, so I tryed changing the fuel filter, after that didn't help I put a new O2 sensor on it, then I havent been able to start it, I'll get back to messing with the maxima as soon as I get finished with the 240.

48 psi at idle is a little high, but it'll work no problem. What exactly are your symptoms?

Check for spark like someone mentioned earlier. It sounds like your FPR is fine since you have plenty of fuel pressure.

But you can disconnect the FPR vacuum hose. It's on the backside of the upper intake manifold. Disconnect that hose and plug it, then see if it fixes the problem. If it doesn't, then it's not your FPR.

Go on to see if your injectors are fine by unplugging them one by one to see if you experience a drop in idle. If you don't get a drop in idle when unplugging one injector, then you know that is your culprit.

Then proceed onto checking for spark. I like to physically remove each spark plug one at a time, leave it plugged in, ground out the ground strap and have someone fire the motor briefly. If you see spark, then you're fine.

BTW, fuel pressure for the VG should be 36psi at idle and 43psi at WOT or with the FPR vacuum hose unplugged.

Hope this helps.

I have a 92 SE with the VE engine. The engine stalls when it is hot. I did what you describe above. Seems like it solves the engine stall problem.

The Nissan Service Manual says "Check fuel properties" if this happens. What exactly does this mean?

Kind of an old thread. Aaron's quite busy these days so you'd do better pm'ing him. long story short you might just need to go on ahead and replace your fuel pressure regulator. Talk to Cmax03 for best options.
