it'll be really loud and really obnoxious. it'll actually be quietest between 1% and 10% throttle... LOUDER at dead-idle, and louder at higher throttle positions. and it'll pop and crackle and stuff. Max #2 had a totally snapped-in-half ypipe.

http://s164.photobucket.com/albums/u...y%20car/d-day/ the vids make it seem quieter than it really was. disclaimer: this was the day i bought it... first time driving a stick 3rd gen... 1st time owning a stick car (driven a few here and there over the previous year... protege, neon, mustang, etc). plus BOTH engine mounts were shot, and it had a bad master cylinder. also please excuse my brother's total lack of knowledge about, well, everything.

i mean... I kinda like the sound... but it was just TOO MUCH sound. the "random piece of metal scraping against something" was the cat-back... as it was detached from the ypipe and dangling down, and hit the driveway.

hmm, actually, i've never really seen an answer to this question... if you take the resonator out and leave the stock muffler, how does that affect the sound?

i don't have a resonator.
thats why in previous posts i said i basically have a catback.

the muffler on that car produce very little sound...most of it is air.

cape your max sounds kinda like the gm's.
and you said the flex pipe is broke? mines is currently split and umm...she does'nt sound like that.

your brothers funny though....

so you mean that removing the resonator and leaving the stock muffler won't make it much louder?

the ypipe literally broke in half. ie 90% of the air was escaping before the cat.

and the next 2 pics after it. i don't drive that one anymore though. that was the parts car, and it's out of commission. only thing left to take is the rear struts so i can do a disc swap, and maybe a few other items here and there, and then the parts car is of no use to me anymore.

well i'm pretty sure if the stock muffler was on there then it whould've been a lil' bit loud.
not loud to disturb neighbors @ 3 in the mornin.

i was looking at the exhuast on my car and thought: well if i fix the flex pipe then maybe the muffler will sound.

it's like they put pieces of pipes together and the muffler tail pipe is big so they put in a smaller tail pipe.....

umm you sent a link of the beatles??

sorry for the bad link. it's a fantasic song tho. what happened is that my laptop at work as CTRL, Fn, Windows, Alt, and my laptop at home has Fn then CTRL... so often times i hit Fn+C instead of CTRL+C out of confusion.

and the next 2 after it.

at least i didn't accidently have something BAD on the clipboard to accidently paste.. like **** or my bank account password. (not that i would be looking at **** at work but you get my point)

maybe so the mines will explode more quietly?

anyhow I doubt muffler mender will work on a flex section. the flexing of it would break apart the mender. On a solid pipe it works, but on a flexpipe, you just have to get a new flex section welded in, or buy a ypipe that isn't jacked up already.

sorry MINE, happy.
yea i tried that and man was she quiet.

the tail pipe on the other hand seemed to be the culprit; noise and oddly power wise too...

at throught the whole rpm range she sounds good.
at idle is where she sounds best.

i did the tune-up too...one was the twin tipped bosch and the other 5 was chyrsler brand spark plugs and was in pretty bad shape.

also had a oem kn filter cleaned that off.
she's even quicker now.

ugh, that makes me want to change everything replaceable on the car. mismatched plugs are a sign of crappy maintenance

well the engine was replaced so here's what i think happened.
while the t-belt, waterpump was repleced on the j/y engine? they did a tune-up and they used the cheapest spark plugs.
spark plug wires.
then when it came down to the bosch plug they could'nt get it out...so they probably figured damn the cylinder head is cross threaded but we won't tell the owner.
so they left it out.
but that was'nt the case.
that plug was in worse shape than the others.

she took care of the car, did a lot AND I MEAN ALOT of out of town driving...

if you fix the flex pipe you will see a MAJOR difference in the sound it will be alot quieter i had one of those steel flex sections put in when my rubber one broke (or rather when i discovered it was broke and maximas arent supposed to sound that way) the exhaust was so loud it scared people made babies cry car alarms go off and made lil kids hide behind their moms

after the flex section its been really quiet... still get a nice snarl from my cracked headers when i floor it though

and for some odd reason a better response.
i guess becuase the o2 sensor is getting all of the exhaust reading instead of 1/2 of it....
