antenna motor

My car antenna's motor now grinds for about 10-15 seconds each time i turn on my stereo. The mast/antenna works fine i can pull it up and down with my hand but the motor for the mast seems like the gears are stripped or something... WHAT cord can i cut just to disable the motor for the antenna??? because i get good reception even with the antenna down.

Please help the sound is driving me crazy.

does the motor still move the mast? you said it 'still works' ... it shouldn't be easy to push or pull it by hand. it should take considerable force. and yea it's possible for the teeth on the mast thing to be stripped. if you want to turn it off there's a harness plug on the antenna motor you can unplug. just don't unplug the antenna's signal wire.

it's the same regardless of year. very few things are year-dependent or model-dependent. to take the antenna out you unscrew the shiny plastic nut at the top but to unplug the motor you just reach down in there after removing the jack.. i think it's on the bottom of the motor assembly.

I just checked, there are two harnesses going into the box(i believe). unplug the one closest to the fender, it should have two wires for power. just make sure the mast is fully down.

I even went out to my car, IN THE RAIN, to take a ****ing picture for you. but NOPE you were too trigger happy to even give me a chance to post the damn picture? do you think before you do things?

see? if you could have just waited for me to get back from my errand, you would have seen this picture, seen that from the time you unlock your trunk to the time you have an unplugged antenna, it takes about 45 seconds IF you still have your jack in the way. see that yellow thing. unplug that. that's it. no cutting. no whining. no looking like a n00btard.

...you asked a question, and it was answered in less than 15 minutes. why would you ask if you would not be willing to wait a couple of hours tops, usually.

so what does your antenna look like?
mebe there is something that can be salvaged from this...

what exactly is a "special edition"? is your keyless entry a remote or on the door handles? i know canada had a brougham... people really need to include their location under their avatar, 1) to suggest where nearby org members are and 2) so we know if your country's max is a little bit different. as much as you like to think you know 'everything about your car' and its specifications if we don't know what you're talking about, chances are you don't either. are you sure you even have Nissan parts in your antenna area? if they are non-oem stuff that could be part of the problem

also can you take any pics? of the "blue" thing you cut? and also take that pic i took for you, angled into the fender where the antenna goes. if it's not, did you reach underneath and feel for wires? FSM shows them pointing up, so maybe i was wrong about the year not mattering, but still, we told you not to cut anything over 2 hours before you came back and said you cut it anyways

nissan made "limited editions" of the sentra in 94 (actually late run 94s when 95 production was started)
Special edition to me is an SE, but once you add keyless it gets confusing.
Post up a VIN so we can see what you got.
you can blank out the last 6 digits to be safe.

A "brougham" is nothing more the a gussied up non-SE. The is just a Maxima, loaded, nothing more. They engineers in Japan didn't stand there and say, "Hey, this is a top level Canada only car. We have to do something different for the antenna, especially since Canada is our highest volume market!".

It's just a power antenna. Unless there were major design flaws in the original unit (there wasn't) or a major re-design of the body shell (there wasn't) then there would be no reason to change the antenna one d*mn bit, no matter how gussied up of a model it's installed in.

DON'T CUT THE WIRES!!!!!!!!!

Oh, sorry. You already did.

i must submit that i was wrong on ONE thing. which makes Sams not-quite-as-dumb for cutting the wire, but he was right about something that i was wrong about. there WERE two antenna styles. Bose and non-Bose. I just looked at both my SEs, and they were the blue-cord-type, whereas my GXE has the style pictured. but i was also right about something that i thought i was wrong about - the thing you unplug is UNDER the antenna box. take jack out, reach UNDER jack support, palm-up with your index finger at the front, push the tab, grasp the harness between finger and thumb and pull it down. i have a pic.

and yea i know my arms are ape-like . It's a Me n' Wayne thing. Me n' Wayne.

Just Curious. With the antenna motor not working properly does the motor create a draw on the battery when the key is in the off position?

none that i'm aware of. when the motor is malfunctioning, it's isolated to the motor itself. the controller box actuall decides when and how the motor gets juice. if the mast is broken (more common) that's a physical issue, not electrical

considering that a motor itself will only be considered failed when it no longer turns, then at that point it will no longer be drawing current.
the antenna however can be considered failed once it no longer goes up or down, however the motor can still be turning at that point and drawing current.
