Sunroof shade removal

Dealer will eat you lunch....

Here is how to remove it You have to take the glass off first (it is not hard, takes about 10 minutes to do.):

1. Slide it back.

2. Open the sunroof to the position where it is popped-up (not slid back)

3. There are 2 plastic bolt covers (one on each side) on the glass. Each one has one screw in it. Remove the screw, and the cover should slide back and come off.

4. Remove the nuts that hold the glass. Remove the glass by picking it up from outside the car.

5. Slide the shade forward about half way. Get out of the car and work from the top. Notice the black clips on the sides that ride on the aluminum rail. There are four of these, one set on each corner. Be very careful here (I am not interested in this part if all 4 of these clips are not intact): Remove both of the front ones, and push the front of the shade downward so that the clips do not re-engage.

6. Pull the shade out further and repeat for the rear clips.

Okay,

You can get one from a junkyard, or you can buy a new one from Courtesy. With the maxima.org discount, it runs about $120.

You can just take it out, but the shade completes the seal on the sunroof by lifting the windows a little. So you'll have to deal with the sun shining on you all the time, and when you go to automatic car washes, you may get a small spray. I think that you can lift the roof a little to compensate for the missing shade though.
