91 Max at 55mph and beyond

My 91 Max VG30E SOHC has been choking (hesitating) at 55 mph and above on the highway lately, like its clogged or something. Scared the ((*(*&& out me, because it feels as though it may cut-off, also I noticed that at certain times when I depress the accelerator I hear something like an exhaust leak that's very loud. I can hear it in the cabin so I know that noise is coming somewhere from the front. Any feedback is much appreciated.

Guys,

I replaced my MAF and the problem went away. Replacing the MAF also cured a slight idle problem that I have had for sometime.
