question for exhaust

ok first off this is for a ve30de engine.

second has anyone ever gone to a 3 inch pipe on the exhaust?

and i would like some help in determining the size of my exhaust. a 2 1/2" pipe with one muffler

or...

a 3" pipe with dual side by side 2 1/2" mufflers

or the last option

a 3" pipe with a dual exit one on each side 2 1/2" mufflers like a 350z or g35 setup.

just would like to know what everyone thinks

I personally think 2.25" mandrel bent tubing Is sufficient for our VG30E's, 2.5" is almost to big for a VQ30 which has 4 valve heads that will out flow a VG30E all day!

Anyone running a dual exit on a 3rd gen outta be shot! The only people that should be running dual exit should be the people own 6th and 7th gens!

the goal with exhaust is to get as small as possible without restricting top end power im pretty sure 3" would kill your low end power when a lil bit smaller pipe would do just as good and wouldn't restrict low end or top end power

see thats what i wanted to know. so then a 2.5" single exit it is.

and the reson im not getting a greddy is the fact that im near broke and have access to a welder and some pipe laying around so thanks

A lot of people with the full Warpspeed Exhaust (2.5" Mandrel bent, Magnaflow resonator/muffler) Say they lost a lot in low end. I would just say run with a Warpspeed Y-pipe (Superior flex section, mandrel bent, stock o2 location, etc), and keep the rest stock and put a muffler on of your choice, unless you can upgrade to something nice like a greddy catback. Since VG's have more tq. On tap at a lower RPM, You shouldn't see as noticeable of a loss in low end with the full 2.5", but I still think a full 2.25" mandrel bent exhaust, high flow cat, deleted resonator, and a quiet muffler (Maybe 5.5 gen) would be perfect.

On my drag racing VE i have a custom 2.5" exhaust, with no resonators and a magnaflow single tip muffler.

Sounds amazing and looks almost stock. A little low end loss but the high end power makes up for it. If you ever plan on adding a power adder like n2o or boost then you need at least a 2.5" exhaust.

is it a good idea to chop the resonator or can that cause turbulence problems

I have a full GReddy cat back on mine, but I think 3" exhaust on these cars is overkill unless you have a turbo or supercharger.

If you have a dual outlet exhaust, I think you need to do some cutting on the spare tire well. IIRC, there have been a couple of people with a G35 or 350z dual exhaust set up. It actually looks pretty cool, even though I imagine it has no real power benefit.

well our cars have a ypipe no matter what. all it does is join the front 3 cylinders' exhaust to that of the rear 3, and direct it to the back of the car. the WSP ypipe has an improved flow design that reduces turbulence and lets the exhaust flow more freely by the junction being parallel rather than perpendicular.

I think you're very correct, 2.25" in a good size for the VG. The Pacesetter exhaust is that size. I own a 5.5 gen with a full Cattman exhaust system with a Cattman ypipe( have the Cattman headers but didn't install yet, getting ceramic coating), and a 3rd gen with stock for right now but I will be upgradig to a 2.25" system!
Boy your car is clean!!!!

2.5" straight pipe is too large for a stock VE.

Yeah, I even think the 2.25" would be ideal for the VE as well. Right now I'm bottlenecking the warpspeed Y into stock cat-back, which in itself seems to have better performance than a straight 2.5". But I'd like to get my catback replaced with 2.25" sometime in the future.

Thanks btw! Can't wait to get that flywheel in.
