I recently took my car to the local Nissan dealership to diagnose an engine light. THey said they were not sure why the light was blinking but that they "thought" I might need a new ECU. They quoted me a price of $700.00 for a rebuilt one plus labor. Can someone please tell me what a good price is for an ECU? Should I get a used one? Are they easy to replace? Do I have any other options besides leaving it alone or spending about a grand? THanks in advance for any suggestions!

i may be wrong but i'm pretty sure that you can get a jwt ecu for less than that. if you need a new one you might as well get the performance one and go with jwt. i think the dealer is bullcrapping you though. check around some reliable shops or something before spending that much. you can also leave just leave it alone. my engine light comes on occasionally too but i dont pay any attention to it. we've taken it to the dealer tons of times and those morons dont know nothin so i just. i think i just have some bad wiring somewhere.

lights

cars always have random lights on soemtimes, my seatbelt light stays on even if everyones buckled up in the whole car (the little bell rings too!) So i don't see why this wouldn't happen with a service engine light also, but I'd still believe it the first few times it does it!

Re: lights

your seatbelt light is due to the auto seat belts. sometimes the limit button on the rail is messed up and it doesn't work correctly hence triggering a seal belt light.
this has almost nothing to do w/ the check engine light.
