nissan maxima intake adapter question!

ive bought this bout a year ago, the description says its heat resistant but over time it got deformed because of the heat from the engine. so now i want to find one thats not made of that abs plastic. this description of this says it fits for 89-94 and 95-99. so the question is this.

does anyone know if this will fit a third gen? :

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MakeTrack=true

please let me know. thanks

the aluminum one would probably fit, worst case scenario you'd have to use some washers on it if you didn't want to drill new holes. The side of the MAF that this will be attached to is flat so it doesn't really matter what you use as long as the bolt holes are the same and the pipe's are lined up.

you could just reuse the one that is in the stock airbox.

A couple of dremel cuts, a pair of pliers, and a hammer can make a useful cone intake adapter from the stock unit.

IIRC, i done this to the wifes maxima intake, i will take a pic tomorrow if i can remember..

i did that when i first took it off, but it looks pretty crappy. its not a perfect circle, looks all deformed once u use pliers to bend it.

If you have an RV store near you. You can go there and find a PVC attachment that is 3.5" that works perfectly (Like mine pictured above) I just drilled a few holes in it and bolted it down and it works perfect. Once the Intake is setup it is really unnoticeable.

$4 and about 10 mins.

No point in spending a whole lot-o-money on a vg auto

anyhoo, here's the ghetto adapter.

Once the rubber filter neck is tightened down onto the adapter, it makes a good seal.

Yo Jay (Stwodahorty).. that adapter will work. I had the same one for my car. Just to let everyone know.. the same adapter for a Z32 300ZX also fits... Before any of this stuff was made for our cars,( way back in da day) I used a Z32 intake on my 92GXE. No fitment issues

I might be missing something here but is the cone filter actually better than stock? As in more air coming in, longer life-span, or just looks cool?

you'll be like a tenth of a HP and a tenth of a LB/FT but it's for looks and sounds, mostly. Perhaps on a cammed setup, turbo, etc, where airflow is more important, then the flow characteristics would come into play more, but on a slap-it-on HAI, the performance gains are pretty small, if even present. Some people report better MPG with cone vs stock to.

Why does your intake tubing look so small?

I think it looks smaller due to the 3 1/2 inch adapter he is using after the maf, i thought the same thing, but after seeing he posted it was 3-n-a half inch, it dawned on me why it looked smaller.

When i bought my intake kit the holes for the metal adapter plate were off by about 1/2" but it's really easy to drill new holes or come up with something to make it work. Don't worry about it.

I didn't think the maf was 3.5" though. I didn't have to use that type of coupler when I made my own CAI.

Well neither did i I bought a stillen aluminum adapter from an org member shortly after making my jeffy/mrgonad cai. at the time of installation i used a plastic ebay adapter.

I don't know whats going on with pearls adapter, the inside diameter looks to be bigger in than the maf diameter, but not sure.

MAF is 3.5", adapter is 3.5", cuplink connector is 3.5" to 3". Tubing is 3" outside diameter.

I dunno dude, seems like this setup would create a disruption in the airflow through the intake system. The whole point of doing this type of cai is to completely smooth out the air path to the uim.

Either that or your blinker fluid may be low

Hah, well I just topped off the fluid last night so I know it's not that. As far as the CAI goes, it's a work in progress, as you can see I still don't have a mid-pipe so that alone disrupts the airflow a substantial amount already I'm assuming. When I get a little cash I plan on doing a full 3.5" with the midpipe included. The only reason I went this route is because I had the pipe leftover from my VG; (free)

I did still notice an improvement over stock though, and It still has the same resonance of all other VE CAI's I've heard. (Screaming at the top of every gear) so I'm content right now.

You could always just drill holes so it fits correctly.
