air bag light blinking
this is justin, lori's son, and i have a question about the air bag light. it blinks while driving, and i noticed that the wire running from the air bag control in front of the radiator has been damaged by one of the belts on the engine, it hasnt been severed yet, but if i hadnt noticed it, it would have been cut in two. is there any way i can cut the air bags off while i run to the auto parts store and find some wiring? also, what should i get to replace the wiring?

DO NOT touch the airbags yourself. take it to a nissan dealer and have them fix it for you. yeah, it's money which none of us have, but the last thing you want to do is make the airbag blow- and pay $1800 to repack it!)
If it's blinking, that means the computer knows something is wrong, and it basically shuts itself off so it won't go off while you're driving.

I am going into hospital on Monday for back surgery..last thing I want to deal with between now and then is trip to dealer..but I need the car... :-(
Nissan dealer said insurance would total it btw...if they do..I will ask what it takes for me to keep it..
Matt..thanks for response. He came in ..all excited about what he was gonna do...I said..."GO TO MAXIMA.ORG"...ask them!!!! before you touch it. he went to friends after a few..and came back saying.."so and so said to just disconnect it here". Shoudl he just connect it back?

Well, disconnecting it will completely disable it.. but I don't know enough about airbags to tell him where to do that. and if you do it wrong (i.e. possibly with ignition on or battery plugged in), it could cause the airbag to go off. If he's already got it disconnected and the light isn't blinking, then I'd say he's okay.
Another option is to call a local body shop. they get to deal with airbags and the electronics quite often, so they should know what to do. I would check my service manual, but it's 60 miles away.

:attention LIVE I SAY! :attention
ya, just had my air bag light blinking, dont know why....but instead of disconnecting it this time, like i did all those years ago when this post was started. I just did the "ignition on, hit door switch 5 times in 7 seconds" thing, and it went off......will it blow in my face?
