Phenolic Intake Spacer Kit! Is it worth it?

I am intrerested in this kit and was wanting some opinions and feedback on this. Is it really worth the $155.oo and trouble of installation. Does it have noticable gains.

Did you read his site? hes put alot of time into it and has put together lots of information on what it does and i believe you get installation instructions. If your not car engine savy i'd let a mechanic do it but, yes i'd buy it if i had the extra cash and wasn't getting laid off soon

I hear great things about this, The only thing that is the downside, IMO, is if you have to get emissions done, you need to either figure out a way to keep the egr hooked up by bending pipe or new pipe. or take the spacer off so the egr can be hooked back up to pass emissions. I would have bought one if there was a way to keep the egr hooked up while the spacer is on, so you dont have to swap the gasket out just for the emission test.

If you can take the intake plenum off yourself and don't mind doing so for the emissions test every 2 years(thats how it is here WA state). I would reccomend this spacer kit if your looking for more power gains.

emissions testing

that bites for you, in NH if its older than 96 or doesn't have OBDII then theres no testing

Is the tube to the EGR copper in the VE like it is in the VG. get a hand tube bender from Harbor freight or sears and order the apprppriate tube aluminum copper steel from www.mcmaster-carr.com or MSC and bend away.

i wonder if it be possible to use the hand bender for the egr pipe on there currently...

I think cars have to be 25 years old to not go through emissions in WA. im not 100% sure.

your better off pulling out the old egr pipe and using as a template adding the length you need to connect to the plenum. the tubing is soft a hand bender will be more than enough. just dont get any tubing with over 0.060 wall. 0.035 would be more than enough.

I had it installed on my previous 3rd gen, plus there is a dyno chart , PLUS the instructions are easy and on the S-I-T-E ,so theres all your answers to your noob questions and spelling lesson to boot. .

An average power gain of 5HP and 8.5ft-lbs! so your butt dyno might not feel a whole lot but theres is a gain... 3% bump in HP and almost 5% trq. sounds good to me. But while you have your intake off, why not send it somewhere or bust out the dremel and smooth your runners and make everything match for a little more flow ?

EGR tube...
- it's made out of steel...(stainless steel to be exact)
- you CAN NOT bend the stock tube with a bender..unless you want the tube to break/crush. it's not a thin wall tube.
- the thread fittings on the ends are unique (can't find it anywhere else).
- the stock tube is tension fitted so it would seal...so that means you need to measure the tube exact so it's tight or else it'll leak.

what i did to mod the EGR tube is to cut the stock tube in the middle. bend a ss tube to where you need it and sleeve/splice it between the two cut sections. weld them together.

More work than I could do, properly. I lack the welder and probably the skill to get it fitted enough to seal.

Any chance you wanna make another?

I have the VE spacer kit, and it does what it says it will. and as for the workmanship of the kit = superb. even the spacers themself look as if they could be put on display.

just when I was about to give up on this whole thing... Its worth it, do it, and for the love of god just buy it bro! I was not expecting this many people to have known about or used this spacer kit. If you wanna know more just hit up the sponsors link at the top of the page. Its pretty much the same stuff thats on his site if you haven't seen it yet. You'd be saving me and swowlinc a ton of frustration if you became the third and final person. Does anyone know how long it takes to do the install by themselves?

I personally could probably do it in under 3 hours, maybe even 2. Depends how much of that time I have a beer in my hand.

I feel you on the beer part . Ive got just about all the sockets and wrenches craftsman can make, but as far as tools needed goes... are there any specialty ones that I'll need man? Are you satisfied with the spacers, and how long have you had them installed?

no not for the 3rd gen VG30 powered Maxima, just spray either a heat insulative paint or barrier coating to reduce heat soak of the intake manifold.

I don't have the spacers BTW. If I had the time/motivation, I did a couple years ago, to build a new EGR pipe I would have them.

Im sure you have them, but I reccommend the allen wrenches that you can put on a wrench. Makes it easier unbolting the IM. Other than that, its pretty straight forward for tools needed.

thanks man. Can you use these with a breaker bar for this application or do you need an airgun and air compressor set up? On the egr bypass set up, could you possibly use stainless steel braided hose lines or does it need to be made out of solid metal tubing? I haven't actually gone to look at it so this might be a stupid question. Im only asking this because it seems that everyone else has the same question when it comes to the emmissions inspection, and having to reconnect everything for the emmisions test

Looks like they'll work with any kind of 3/8, and 1/2 ratchet/ breaker bar/ impact wrench. Though when working with the intake manifold, I would suggest just using a quality ratchet set.

sweet bro! Thanks for the help man. I was wanting to get an idea of what I would be looking at as far as work involved, and tools needed before I got in over my head

to me the kit is worth it. i noticed the difference. Aaron doesn't play around when it comes to mods like this aside from Matt and Jeff.

I assume they are only being offered in a group deal for the VE. If anyone else is interested I would like to buy a set for my VG if we can get enough people. Let me know.

The egr block kit comes with a cap off plug in place of the tube.
