ok, that thread is a confusing waste.
The KEY code was originally on a white sticker in the glovebox and started with the letter X. the dealer does not have that code unless you contact the original selling dealer and hope that he kept records for 15 years plus is willing to look for it.
on a GXE there is a door unlock code which is an entirely different thing. The unlock code is something set by the owner. each car does have a master code which is on a sticker on a gold box under the dash. http://www.cardomain.com/ride/454290/7

yea i know what the freekin door unlock code is. i'm tlaking about keys that probably aren't gonna keep working for much longer since they are physically deteriorated. ie keys: starting the car by putting a *key* in something called the *ignition* and physically twisting it to start the car.

so prett much if i want fresh keys i need fresh locks/ignition etc.?

That's the general consensus. Nobody can definitively say whether or not they've been able to get the key code from somewhere on the car.

Call up a locksmith and see what they can do. It's got to be cheaper than a full lock set at the dealer.

the only place on the car that the KEY code ever was placed was in the glovebox on a sticker. it may have been written down in the owners manual.
If you want to have a new key made w/o the code, the easiest way is to remove the trunk lock cylinder and take it into a lock smith they can make you a key from that.
