Those Of You With 18s

Those of you with 18s, what tire size would fit best with these rims and keep the speedo close to normal?

18 x 8.0
18 x 7.5

225/40
215/40
215/45

What about lowering the car? Does this make the 18s ride too rough?

the width doesn't matter, 40 is the correct size for sidewall for 18s

I had the 18" version

of my rims on my car and I didnt like the ride. good thing
I sell the rims that are on my car so I was able to switch them for 17"s. They look great, ride great and everybody thinks
there 18"s anyway(not that it makes a diff for me.)
Lowering your car with any size rims will change the ride, but stock height and 18"s will do it by them selves. heres a pic of
them on my GXE (for sale :d)I have 45s on them now.

Re: I had the 18" version

So, you think that stock suspension on 18s will suck?

N34JZ, what kind of rims are those and what width? (And offset if u know?) Those look quite nice.

As for the tire sidewall height thing, look here: http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html It really does seem that 40 series tires is the right height for the thinkable range of widths you'd be using (215 - 235).

Well I just got 18 inch Konigs on my car, I've heard 18x8 is better than 18x7.5 looks-wise... but my 18x7.5s are fine.. your speedo will be CLOSE to normal no matter what, you'll actually be doin 61 and your speedo will say 60 or somethin.. no big deal. As for the ride, my car isn't dropped, but I'd say dropping the car in general in gonna make the ride rough, my ride is descent right now, but rougher than stock..

ROH rims RT series with Black Ice finsih. I sell them
My site. forget what width we did but the 45 set up looks way better with 17s on a bigger car like mine, on my friends Del Sol hes got 40s and17" and that looks right for his car,

Re: they are

there was a post a while back with a link to a page that can tell you. all you have to put in is the stock size and then play around with different 18 sizes. you could probably find it by searching, i don't remember the address. the thread was about 2 or 3 weeks back though.

Re: Re: they are

I appreciate it. I was mainly just wanting to know how the stock suspension with 18s would be. Will it make that much a difference between 17s and 18s?

Here ya go

Tire calculator

Width does matter because the 40, or 45, or 50, or whatever is the ration of sdewall height to width, so a 215/40 has less sidewall than a 235/40, because 40% of 215 is less than 40% of 235

Personally I think 17s are a good balance between looks and handling, and as long as you get lighter wheels, wont affect speed to much.

Re: Here ya go

I was away from the board for quite some time (about two months) due to some computer problems and other things. I thought that I was going to trade in my 94 GXE on a 02 Max, so I sold all the mods including suspension and rims to a guy in Brunswick, GA. After looking around, I found an 02 Max for what I thought one would be after I trade in my 94 GXE on it. Since the price was that much lower, I decided to keep my 94 and buy the 02 as well. Now I have a stock setup on my 94 and it really ticks me off. It has been almost a year since I had a stock setup on it and I wanted to get some more tires and rims for it. I am going to turn it into a show car. I had 17 inch Konig Caffeines on it, but no longer. I want the same rims, just 18s in size. Everywhere that I have checked have said that they are discontinued. WTF? Does anyone know where I can get some for a decent price. Whalen Tire had them for fairly cheap, but they were the ones who said they were discontinued.

I appreciate any help.

Try www.tiretrends.com - they list them on their site. I also checked www.discounttiredirect.com and they have them, but not in our bolt pattern. If that doesn't work out, trawl around the internet ( www.google.com or www.dogpile.com ) for tire/wheel shops. I found lots of lookalikes and maybe even copies of several designs all over the place under various names I've never heard of before. You know the Konig Verdict? I know I've seen at least TWO copies of that wheel (almost identical).... unless Konig sells under other names but why would they do that?!? So maybe you'll find a set of "Caffeine-alikes" somewhere too for cheaper.

Good luck!
