aftermarket stereo wiring problems

hey guys, im hoping you can help me out here.

I have a 92 maxima gxe with the active stereo system (non-bose).
I purchased an Aiwa cd head unit and trying to replace the factory unit. I also bought the wiring harness for the 92 maxima.

My problem is, I wired and matched-up (by color) the harness' connections to my new stereo but the darn thing just wont power up. The only wire i havent connected to the stereo is the power antenna. This shouldnt affect it right? If you can tell me if there anything i have left out or have anything in mind that might help, please let me know! Thanks.

youv'e got a couple problems.. 1 obvious.. the next coming after you fix the first one..

1. The only ground your stereo has is through the antenna. that's why you've got no power. hook up the antenna and the head unit will power up.
the way to fix this is to add a seperate ground wire from the head unit to a ground point on your car (anything metal pretty much).
If you'll take a close look at the wiring harness adaptor you bought, the ground wire coming from the stereo won't have anything connected to it on the "car end" of things.

2. you'll need to bypass the rear amplifier for the system to sound right. there's a small amp on the rear deck that's driven by outputs from the OEM head unit... these signals are VERY small, and need an amplifier on them before they go into the read deck to drive speakers.

Instructions for this procedure are on my website.
