GXE KEYLESS ENTRY TOUCH PAD PROBLEM!
GXE KEYLESS ENTRY TOUCH PAD PROBLEM!
MY Keyless entry touch pad has stopped working. It wont light up or beep or respond to anything. It was working for a while as I had to use it to open the driver side door, because the lock does not come up all the way. And because the lock does not come up like it should, when I open the door, the alarm goes off everytime. So since my keyless entry does not work, I am forced to unlock the passenger side door, or either unlock the driverside door along with opening the trunk, so the alarm does'nt go off. Anyone have any suggestions??
that's like telling someone to amputate their arm because of a broken wrist
perhaps he wants to keep his keyless entry? i miss mine... still haven't figured how why it doesn't work anymore
well actually it's just my power locks that are bad.. keypad still works.

i just figured alot of people have problems with the keyless entry and all it is is another electrical problem that you will have to deal with.....with all the electrical in these cars i would want to do away with any electrical componates that i didnt need like the dumb keyless entry. I think it looks stupid to have those buttens on the door handle anyway, just another way for crooks to try and break in, not to mention if you keep trying the passcode and it doesnt work wouldnt that eventually drain your battery???
true true.... But i was giving him benefit of the doubt that maybe he has already takin apart the door trying to find otu what was wrong with the keypad in the first place...so i figured he could find a non keyless entry door handle alot easier and cheaper than he could find the gxe model.....just thinking about cost effectivness, we are talking about 3rd gens here...not porshes...
cost effective?
buy more parts, and spend alot of time swapping stuff around to make it work (time + money)
or
pull the dlt, solder it (which most people at least know somebody with an iron), and reinstall it (time only), and you will be done for at least another ten years for the job

First of all, it's almost never the keyless entry pads themselves that fail, they are made quite well..It's almost always the door lock timer that is causing the issues..Second, It would take a "crook" waaay to long to sit there and try 11ndy billion different combination's of numbers to gain access to the car, it's much easier and more common for thieves to just break out the rear triangle glass window, pop the lock, and boom their in, on my maxima, and on your maxima
.. Third, drain the battery?
do you realize how long it would take to drain a good battery just standing there punching in codes?..ummm quite a while dude..You give the general public way too much credit, for the novice shadetree that has never taken the door panels off these cars, it will take them at least 5 times as long to replace the door handles vs. just pulling 3-4 screws out of the panel below the steering wheel, 1 or 2 screws and a plug on the DLT..and they actually FIX the problem all together, instead of going around the issue with 3 times the labor..

Dude, you're grasping at some really short straws trying to make your argument.

Ok Mr. Politically Correct you got me, sorry for just making a suggestion.....i think we've beat this thread dead....
Ok so the Door lock timer is actually located beneath or behind the lower steering wheel panel? How hard is it to get to? And what do I need to Solder? I do have a soldering iron, or would it be best to just replace the door lock timer with one from the local junkyard?

Well Guys I have located the door lock timer, after pulling the lower dash panel off. I also stumbled up on the ANti Theft device, which is a nice feature to have. But for the time being I just unplugged it for now, so that i dont have to worry about the alarm going off when I open the driverside door. That solves that problem!! Keyless entry still does not work, but who cares, the only feature I liked about it was the fact of opening the trunk, and letting the windows down in the summer. The screws on the door lock timer seemed as if they were screwd in with lock tight, so I didnt bother to mess with them.
What are some of the most common symptoms of bad solder joints on the Door Lock Timer? I never really used mine to their full potential,..mostly just to lock the doors for the evening
Oh,. if you'll permit me a side question - Would the door lock timer have any effect on the actual Key activated locking/unlocking of all the door locks? ... The reason I ask is that I replaced the power window/lock control on the Drivers side door last year,.. and ever since then the doors will not all unlock when I insert and turn the key anymore
??
Thanks
Rick

example: you use your key to unlock the doors and they unlock briefly but then lock again right after
Hmm... well I guess I'll be tearing into that here pretty soon as well.. I changed out the window/lock controls because the passenger side front window would not go down with the drivers side control(s)... now that's working but the lock stuff is all messed up
... I kept wondering if I had knocked one of the connectors loose when I was putting the door pannel back on ... if it's not one thing, it's 10 others
Thanks.
Rick
