so i headed over for a 200 mile drive today to look at a maxima i saw on c/l for a pretty good deal.
its a 92 maxima dont know what series lol didnt check w/ 129k miles. Everything works on this sucker except it needs alignment.
drove 200 miles used less than 1/2 tank PERFECT!
what kinda things can i do to it to make sure it runs right?
gonna slap some g35 18's that i have too i gotta make sure it looks nice too

 

well the 'series' determines the engine. if your valve covers are red with a tall oil filler stalk in the rear, it's a VG (89-91 SE, 89-94 GXE). if your valve covers are gray with a "Nissan 24 Valve" sticker and a flush oil filler cap in the front valve cover, it's a VE (92-94 SE)

 

red valve covers so i guess a gxe ...will post pics tommorow after i take off the bad tint and put on the 18's...

oh forgot to mention that on the way over one of the tires exploded and i had to change it out..it was dryrotted to hell...bent the corner of the bumper...>

 

Just FYI the gas gauge isn't linear. For what it's worth, I usually get right at about 250 miles on the first "half" of the gas gauge and only about 100 on the second "half". I average just under 25 mpg with about 50/50 mixed driving

The gauges in these cars arent bad, better than the gauges in my chevys, those needles sway as i turn hard and brake hard

That's actually the black one in my sig, de-modded and as she drives today. All my goodies are on my blue '93 VE (it's actually under the car cover in some of those pics). I've just been too lazy to update my sig and whatnot

Although I actually am currently looking at buying a 3rd one

gxe -- VG and AT. I would be sure to do everything you can to preserve the tranny. If you don't have updated records, I would change the tranny fluid and get a new timing belt on it.

I would change all fluids. Timing belt and water pump for sure. Jack it up and check out the undercarriage. Make sure everything's looking good. Nice pickup!

Wow what a great deal on that one!! And with pretty low mileage for the year! You cannot beat a deal like that! I bought my 93 GXE with 176,000 miles 2 years ago. I now have 215,000 miles on it as I do alot of highway traveling, and she still runs like a champ. Just keep up the maintanance, and do a little preventive maintanence, and it should last a long time!

 

Damn thing looks good I have a 92 GXE same color if u want to know any problems that ive came across with mine just ask me im always on here. but with the wheels it look good im still looking for some SE-R wheels i havent seen any 3rd GENs with them yet...

 

looks exactly like mine when i bought it 129 on the dash u even got the same dealership sticker

tranny fluid timing belt and power steering flush

struts are probably dead get a set of koni or tokico or u might end up smacking your oil pan

 

took it to my buddy who is a mechanic to order some tires and have it alligned there but ran into a problem...
lower control arm bushings are bad...im probably going to do the work myself...from the looks of searching around the site it is very common in this model...
do you guys have any pointers on this?

One of mine has black covers anyway, but most I see are red-top

 

i mean they can be painted... mine are black, but i'm pretty sure they're always red from the factory.

 

Maxima was red from the factory. others were grey

 

Not to sway off topic, mine are factory black, unless they were taken from another VG30E, but I've seen a few around here with black covers, maybe this is another Aus. Spec thing ... ? Dunno, anyway, back on topic now
