I have had this problem ever since I have owned the car. The floor is not wet in the car. It happens when the car is being driven regularly and also when it has been sitting. My windows get this haze/fog on them after a few days and about after two weeks of not cleaning the windows they are hard to see out of. Is this a common problem in our cars? I know I have noticed that I have water trapped in the moon roof. It looks like it is trapped between the glass and the factory tint. What is failing to let moisture get in there? Any ideas guys? I am getting frustrated with this. Thanks.

 

That's interesting, as 3rd gens don't have a "known" problem with moisture/fog like some other cars. I've had 4 3rd gens and have never had a problem with moisture/fog. In fact, my blue VE that I'm converting right now actually has a leaky sunroof to the point that you can "feel" the moisture in the car and it actually gets the interior damp and it hasn't been fogging up

Does the fog clear up if you run the a/c compressor or does that not even clear it up? My mom has an '00 Elantra, and her car has fogged up so bad from day one it's ridiculous. Even running the a/c compressor won't hardly clear it up

 

Running the A/C does not help. As stated before the car can be running regularly (the reason I state this is because I have 4 vehicles so they are not all diven evey day). I had a leaky moon roof too but I fixed that by cleaning out the drains. Now the moon roof only leaks under high pressure. During normal rain it does not.

I'm really not sure what is causing this. Do you have trapped water in sunroof, between the glass and tint? That's the only trapped/standing moisture on my car, and that is on the "outside" so I am not sure that would even cause what I am talking about.

I know in some cars this is a signing of a leaking heater core, but my passengerside floor board is not wet, my coolant level is fine, my car does not smell like coolant, and the windows get foggy regardless if the car is being driven or not.

For the most part the car does sit in the sun all day. It is not garaged at my house or at my job.

 

So the windows are getting dirty then? More of a haze then a fog. If I use windex to clean my windows I get a very similar effect, looks foggy but it's just sort of dirty. I just use plain water now and I don't have any problems.

 

ummmm, I am not sure. They do have a haze. But how would they be getting this dirty with just sitting in my drive way with the windows up? I have tried a few different cleaners on the windows. The most recent one was a rain-x window cleaner. I'll post back it that one does any better but I really don't think that is the problem.

 

I dont know if this may be your problem, but before my heater core went out, being that the climate control was set on heat, the **** was pushed down. It somehow blows air inside the car, and I didnt know what was going on until it got worse, in which the heat was getting cooler and cooler, anti-freeze smelled throughout the car, and the windows fogged up so bad that the defroster and AC could'nt get it off!

 

Is it actually moisture as in condensation, or is it a haze?

If its a haze, its usually caused by stuff out of the dash depositing on the inside of the windshield, which is a result of the sun heating the dash, hence it happening when it sits outside with the windows up. Different products (cleaners, amourall etc) used on the dash over the years will cause varying amounts of haze. Even the dash itself will contain products that will haze the windscreen in the sun.

Other than cleaning regularly, its probably going to continue happening. Dont just wipe it with a dry cloth as it will smear and will become annoyingly noticeable at night time with swirls on the window from street lights and oncoming car headlights.
