Good project car? 92 SE Auto

This guy is asking $500 Canadian for his 92SE Auto, I've been looking around for a long time 2+ years for a SE model and this is the first one I actually see around here.

here are the details I have.

133,600 miles (215,000km)
Automatic
Full equip
Mp3 player (I'm assuming it's all aftermarket, But I won't be keeping it anyway)
White leather interior (Haven't seen any with white leather, rare?)
Winter and Summer tires

The bad. (that he knows of)
- Leaking gas tank (I'm assuming it's the filler neck like in my GXE since it's a common problem)
- Bad O2 sensor
- Bad knock sensor
- Still runs, but low mpg cause of the previous issues (maybe more)

I haven't checked the car since its 150 miles from me. But I'm planning in seeing it.
What would be the things I should check when looking at it?

I already know about the rust in the rear, but that's pretty much all..

Here are some pics

I don't know if he is a member of the org.

Get that bish dude, swap in a 5 speed

Also, are you sure the seats aren't just tan? They look white in that one picture but I think it's probably just because of the flash, in all the other pics they look tan. Plus, they should be tan with the beige exterior

Stuff you want to check for is pretty much the same for all 3rd gens - since you're up north you also want to check for rust in the front strut towers, and if you can, take out some of the trunk material and check for rust around the area that the seatbelts attach

You should pretty much assume ahead of time that the VTC's tick so don't let that bother you if they do. If they don't, then consider that icing on the cake

If my currency calculator is correct that's only $460 American? That ain't bad, not bad at all. Unless the car is a complete rust pile then that's a great deal - even if the transmission or engine was bad or something that'd still be worth it.

looks totally decent, I would jump on it...

Does look like tan leather... though that is pretty much a rarity in itself. Auto's on VE's are good unit's, 160k trouble free miles on mine... I paid $340 for my parts car (with some mods and a nice black leather interior) but it was crashed and definitely did not run- so for a decent looking, running, VE- can't really go wrong.

I think your right, it must be tan leather. I just thought it was white, and I was in doubt since I never saw one with white leather before.

@James92se: Yea that would be $460. And I'm aware of the VTC clack, and if it does I'll try grounding it.
I'll look for the front struts to see if there is any rust, knew about the back tho.

Also while I'm thinking about it, would a bad O2 and knock sensor make for bad mpg? Sorry but I have no experience in that subject.

A bad o2 sensor can definitely cause adverse effects to your fuel consumption, they can be had for around $100 from a local auto parts store. Knock sensors don't affect mileage as much, but with a bad one your ECU will automatically retard ignition timing to protect the engine from knocking (in the event it happened- the knock sensor would not be able to pick it up)... basically in fail-safe mode. However, the low end of the powerband is not nearly as potent from what I have experienced. They are around $60.

Time for 02 install = 20 mins tops
time for knock sensor install = 3hrs + (upper intake manifold, lower intake manifold, fuel rails, etc. to get to it)

well O2 sensors are pretty easy to replace for a common person with some common sense but for knock sensor u gotta pull alot of stuff and if u hadnt have any experience in this field i would say its gonna cost u more than $500CDN...get a quote from ur local shop how much they would do it for then think again if u wanna buy that car...if u r gonna do it urself with instruction from .ORG then i would say GET IT...auto VEs are very reliable transmissions...will get u very far if u maintain it.....other than that car looks great and that tan leather interior is very rare....plus u have decent Kms on it...check for rusts on the areas as directed above..

Jump on it, or look around for another week @ other Maximas if you can find one cleaner than that you're be really blessed! That should be a VE in it! I did this with a Shelby Charger back a few years ago and It was gone...The guy only wanted $400 ...It had a blow head gasket but was really in good shape...I'm still kicking myself in the *** for that miss!

Considering the price that the seller is asking and the price of the parts needed, you're under $700 CAD. The car appears to be clean and aesthetically pretty well maintained. My $.02 (USD) is if the car checks out under your inspection, you'd be hard pressed to come across another opportunity like this. You are obviously interested in the car, the price is right, everything looks good - go for it man.

If all else fails, you could always drop a few bucks just to get it in good mechanical shape and turn it around for a little profit.
