pick-a-part help

First sorry for any stupid questions. Anyways, i havent been to pick-a-part since i was a kid. The one here is basically a huge field with a couple hundred imports, domestics, trucks, and vans all separated and you just rip off what you want and pay (im sure most people have been to one)

anyways, i went today looking for a new centre cap for my rim and i actually found a 3rd gen, 1991 SE auto. I took alot of the console, 2 centre caps, and the corner light (my left one is smashed) and they let everything go for cheap, i got everything for a few bucks

I didnt bring much money but i'm going back tomorrow at opening for more stuff i'm after.

-How do you take the spoiler off?

-How do you take off the grille?

-Are there any other good parts that i should take? Only the door panels, speakers, one tail light, radio, and trunk padding have been taken by other people, so alots still there.

-I found a 2nd gen 1987 with almost everything left on it, anything i can take and swap over to my 3rd gen?

Also, for cadaver, theres a 1985 300zx in perfect shape, engine, tranny, and all. Only one seat is taken

Thanks for the help

The easiest way to get the grill off is to squeeze the backs of the clips on the backside of the grille. There's 5 total, one on each corner and one in the middle. You can squeeze them with your fingers with some effort. What I do is just push up the bottom of the clip with a finger, and use a skinny flat head to push down the top of the clip. After each clip is popped out, the grille just comes right off. This way you have the clips on the grille, and can just pop the grille right in when you want to install it.

Not sure on the spoiler. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not really removable.

Personally, I always grab the dash if it's black and in good condition as we get alot of heat/sun damage down here. That may not be an issue up there, of course.

May want to grab the master window switch, door lock timer, clock, etc. depending on how much time you have and how much you want to spend.

You can grab a bunch of fuses, bulbs, interior screws, etc. too

ive got til about 5 hours to spend there

I saw the grille clips, that i can do. The car itself is the maroon color and so is the interior, so far all ive swapped is the flip cover for the centre console. Mine was broken and i like how thin the SE one is compared to how fat my stock GXE was

bulbs i'm for sure getting, i was going to go back a hour before closing today for them but i couldnt get in the lane and by the time i backtracked they would have been closed. stupid me never got the bulbs and i placed them on the inside, as long as it doesnt rain tonight theyre still good

screws is a good idea, basically i'm trying to ****** everything good i can find before 3rd gen stuff is hard to get. I'll try to remove the strip that connects the tail lights on the trunk too, never know if i will need a new one

check the condition of your splash shields (plastic underneath the car) and the bolts for those. Something that is hard to find in good shape. Same with the mudflaps. Some cars have them, some don't. I had some and never installed them, then sold them. Every winter I think I should put some on and then I don't drive the car.

Good call, my splash shields arent the best. better get those too

The mudflaps i ripped off, i think theyre what caused my wheel wells to rust and when i took my rust off, the mudflaps were all rusty and torn. 3rd gens look better without them anyways

i think i'll take he mirror switch buttons and all too, someone else pryed the dash open so theyre easily accessed. might even take the gauge cluster too.

Im pretty sure the scrap 3rd gen belonged to a older person, bone dry stock, a Jesus prayer card in it, and 240,000km. If i had a way to get them home i would take the engine and tranny, both i bet are in immaculate shape.

Fog lights are usually busted or rusted to crap, if you find one in good condition and the other is not, simply take the good one and hold it until you get one in good condition. They're close to $200 new EACH at the dealer. Leather is usually in bad shape too so if you're into leather, take what you find in good condition and hold it until you piece a whole interior in excellent condition.

easier to take the entire trunk.

to get the spolier off there are a few center bolts and some end clips...BUT if the ends are lifting pass on the spolier.

someone jacked the fog lights already. lol

I worked on the spoiler for about half a hour and i couldnt get it, i figured hell for a few bucks just get the whole trunk. I looked and one part of the trunk has mega bubbleage, so its probably rusty.

Someone jacked the splash shields already too. i was able to get alot of the switches, upholstry parts, etc. The engine looks pretty good so i might see if anything is worth taking off of it tomorrow

Is the climate control worth getting? i almost got it but then i gave up, if its worth taking i'll go back tomorrow

It almost sounds like you're just going junk yard crazy... pulling anything and everything lol.. start by looking at your car first and see what you think you need, then get whatever spares you might need

lol, its hard to find 3rd gens here that are for parts, i find about 1 a year on local ads and thats it.

Theres so many whole cars i just want to take there, theres a nice looking 1977 Toyota Celica Liftback. I actually almost bought a 1991 i think it was Eagle Talon AWD turbo but it had way too high mileage, 600k

My hood has alot of dings, is it hard to pull off 3rd gen hoods? If its not uber hard i might take the other one and paint it/swap it with mine, the parts one has not a scratch even

hood is easy.... well... if you have 2 people. if you're by yourself then there's a pretty high risk of scratching your paint and/or dinging your windshield when installing it on your car. get 2 helpers to make it extra-easy when installing it.

hell if you wanna tackle something good at the junkyard, if it's an se get the struts (if they're all in good shape).
if your gxe has rear drums. might as well convert it to rear disc.
i think it only took me bout 45 minutes to remove the stuff from the rear.

yep, shes a SE. I think the struts are still there, the rear disks were already raped. Someone took them along with just the rear rims. Whoever already got to the car before me knew what they wanted.

Too bad it isnt a later year SE, it would be worth getting the engine but of course 91 SE just had the VG.

I need to find a jack too, the guy who sold me my max took immaculate care of it but theres no jack, until now ive just been borrowing peoples but i really need one

Not to steal your thread but I just left pick n pull yesterday. I needed a new steering wheel. I remember from the search I did a month ago that the steering wheel was the same as the altima. So I spent 2 hours trying to get this one off (stupid steering lock). Finally got it off 30 mins before closing only to realize it was in the same condition as mine. So I found another victim and got it within 20 mins. So if u need steering wheel get one. BTW with the steering lock engage it was a pita!

My steering wheel is in awesome shape, i like the style of the junkyard one more but i like the horn as buttons rather than the middle

I took alot of random screws, clips, 3rd tail light, etc. today. Ive taken about all i need off of it, I was going to get the hood today but noone i know with a truck was available today so its going to have to wait

So i went today, nothing better to do so i just walked around. I got my hands on a freshly brought in black on black 93 GXE. Took off all i wanted, the 2 corner lights and a few console pieces, then i looked at the mileage.

102km, so thats only like 45k miles. This thing has barely seen life. Its got body rust, but still. I was going to call up somebody and rip out the tranny, but 2 things made me not

1. The odo could be rolled back for whatever reason
2. For someone to get rid of a car at that low mileage, the tranny likely had issues

ehh..i doubt it.
there's been times when i see car come in my job and think something like that.
turns out they've been booted then the city towed it then junked it.
you could always check the fluid too.

a vg-auto will last for a long time if you change the fluid every 12,000 miles.

if it has the ACC, i'd grab the digital display controller. They always burn out and are stoopid expensive from Nissan.

WOW, wish our local pick-apart had those goodies!! We've got a '94, well stripped, and a 91 or 92.

Another thot to consider, some rust on a '92, wouldn't take much for an ins. company to write it off.

hey 1992MaximaSE30, RU serious about the tranny juice change interval... every 12K?? I was thinking at least 30K (miles). BUT....... I had mine rebuilt at 90miles, and it's shot again at 120 miles. So I'm very wary of this tranny's longevity. I'm thinking of hitting our local PAP tomorrow to grab a tranny with 120K on it.

sure would like to grab that one yer talking about chrome91!!!!!!

my Maxima got hit by another car friday night and the person that caused the crash refused to pay for any of the damage and they would just lie if i went through insurance. i went today and got a new headlight and some other goodies, noones touched the newest 3rd gen that went in so the parts were easy to get at

the tranny looks like its good, fluids fine. looks like someone may have been digging under the car lately so i might see if the tranny is there.
