Inexpensive motor swap?
I'm planning a vq35 swap in my 4th gen and was wondering if anyone could point me towards the most inexpensive route.
I know there are pick-a-part scrap yards but called the only one i know around me in western ma and they told me a vq35 would be $1300!
I also want to rebuild the engine before it goes in, so does anyone know the best way to go about this?

Buying used and then rebuilding might not be worth your time, unless you plan on doing some upgrades wile you're in there.

inexpensive? This isn't the honda game mang.
This swap is 'spensive when compared to any swap mang. The most inexpensive way to do it is to track down a vq35de with low miles, on a max that has been tagged on the rear, you want to do all the labor yourself, you want to have someone around who can help with the troubleshooting that is inevitable, (a guy on here who's name rhymes with "fraction" could prolly do that for you)
And mang, if you are talking about gutting the thing and doing some internal work, a resounding "WHY????" like mr Tosheto said, is a very valid thing to ask yourself. God forbid you do something internal that messes up the timing chain, you already have to get the cam adapters and that is getting messy, sticky, elbow deep into stuff that if you aren't SURE what you are doing is gonna end up giving you a headache. So why bother unless you gonna run boost or something equally as demanding.
Thanks for the headlights, I owe you a coke.

I was just thinking about rebuidling it to prolong it's life before I put it in. I have a buddy in my car group that's gonna help me along with it when the time comes.
Unfortunately she's an automatic, but that's down the road a little bit.
Not a problem man, I for sure want to see these guys on the car when they get installed!
