Engine Noise and Fouled out Plug...Help

Ok guys I have been troubleshooting a misfire issue for over a month now. Replaced bad injectors, tune up parts etc. However, I have noticed that the #4 Cyl Plug keeps fouling out pretty bad. Today when the car is idling I hear a rattle/ metal tap sound when I open the throttle a little.
If I go outside I can def hear some type of metal to metal contact when I give her gas on #4 its not loud, just like a small tap noise...
But the noise isnt constant, its not like when I open the throttle the noise continues on...its just a couple of tap's then it stops. But if I pull the plug after the car has ran for 10 minutes or so...its fouled out.

I presume its valve related since I am having this issue of Foulage..either that or I have a broken piston ring etc..

Thoughts guys?

If you mean carbon deposites on the insulator of the plug that would indicate it is running rich. IMHO, this could be caused by bad spark or by bad injector. I don't think valve or piston ring can cause that.

What kind of foul is it by the way? Is it oily and wet or dry and black.

In that case, maybe internal engine wear: rings, cylinder bore, valve guides, oil seals?

My car gave those similar symptoms, less the blue smoke. Does your car feel like it's lacking power too? I say you get a scope and try and listen to the area where it's coming from, if you can pin point - it's really hard to tell sometimes, but it may give you clues.

From: Skokie (look it up)
do a compression test on the cylinder to see if the compression is within spec, my guess would be that it is not.

yea the noise and fouling your describing sounds like my old ve.
a buddy of mine kept telling me it's not a compression problem.
we did evrything then we did a compression test...50psi on cylinder 5.

question: this happened out of no where?
