Curious What Your Thoughts Are on This Filter for our old Trannies

http://www.summitracing.com/parts/SUM-G4980/

Could this do anything bad to the flow or oil pressure in the RE4F02A?

Maybe this could be a good addition to a newly rebuilt tranny....if it actuallly works that is.

Yeah, curious myself. It would for sure be good as long as like you said it doesn't affect pressure.

wait...i thought the vg-a tranny had an internal filter?
so internal you gotta take the whole tranny apart to get to it?

i'm all for it but would rather take the internal one out first.

well that's the problem, if you have an internal filter, when it gets dirty, you have to tear it to hell to get it out. If you have an external filter, you can just change that from time to time, so the internal filter never gets dirty. imagine if the ONLY filter for your engine oil were a superfine screen on the oil pickup...... you'd have to drop the xmember and oilpan every time you did an oilchange! so an external filter seems like a pretty good idea. i wouldn't really just go and REMOVE the internal filter tho...

yea i agree the external filter is an excellent idea. thats why i have it on my q45. but some of us here bought these car's where the tranny has'nt been upkept so you got that internal filter already dirty.
so there's a possibility your gonna lose some pressure.

You cannot lose any operating pressure in the box itself by simply fitting an extra external filter in the existing cooler line - the cooler feeder line is taken after all the circuits in the box is fed - if anything a blocked (or high resistance) external filter will tend to raise the box's pressure due to reduced cooler circuit flow

had one, was working great, till the trans blew. no fault of the filter. just a bad rebuild.

What will I be looking at in approx. total cost (USD) to do the major overhaul for an RE4F02A? Considering I already have the core and I'm buying the parts online and doing all the work myself.

Is it cheaper than engine overhaul?

Since I am in South Africa, I can only base my estimation on parts cost here, and I would have to say that a RE4F02A rebuild cost (work done yourself) would be equal or greater than the VG V6
