ABS Questions: Experienced Help, Please

The ABS unit in my 93 SE is peeing brake fluid. It sat for almost three years before I got it running again recently (had fairly fresh fluid when parked). The day I started it and drove it around the shop, pedal nearly to the floor- one circuit still holding fuid. Luckily it didn't give up when we tow-strapped the car over to the shop a few weeks earlier.

I did do a search here a few weeks ago- and I will again- but it looked like the info was a few years old. One guy seemed to have some success rebuilding one then. I was wondering if there is any later info from those who know:

1: Anyone have experience or info on rebuilding the unit (assuming it's not cracked or something) We know that it's NOT covered in the SM.

2: Is it true that the 92-94 ABS units are different than earlier ones?

3: Was this particular ABS unit used in any other Nissan/Infiniti? (don't think so)

Thanks

1. I don't think there is a rebuilt kit for it. I called several rebuilders. They said it's OEM new replacement only.

Same thing happened to mine. I threw it out and put in a JY unit. Another workaround could be to scrap the whole ABS system, and do as caped says, modify the master cylinder - I can't remember what else he said.

I've been driving for 1000 KM right now and the ABS unit isn't even plugged in (via harness connectors) by wires, it's just a dummy unit with fluid going through it. I also cut out all the ABS sensors at each wheel.

Bump.

I'm guessing from the lack or response that most folks that have a failed ABS unit go for a JY unit or (gasp) buy a new one. I'd really like to save the $1000 for a new one, and I wonder how much better the JY units are at this point in time. And, are there really that many still out there in the JY ?? How many Maximas had ABS ?

Anyway, still hoping that someone has some experience making a leaking ABS unit work again, or has some other advice/source.

Errr... I mean "actuator", not "unit". But you knew that.

just JY it, or find a barely running donor car to test it out before pulling it.

A few years ago I had similar problem - my ABS actuator was leaking in the middle between top and bottom halves. At that time I replaced the unit with JY one and it is still good. I tried to tighten bolts on top of the unit but it didn't help for long. Later I disassembled leaking one and found that there're 2 more bolts under round cups on top of the unit and I'm still wondering if I could've fixed mine if I knew about them ... JY is definitely less adventurous way.

Mine is leaking like a sieve. Junkyard unit in garage ready to be painted. Awaiting swap. I've looked into rebuilding mine, finding whatever o-rings/gaskets need to be replaced... then after whatever research I could find decided against it. It doesn't look terribly involved, but it looks like they don't just leak from deteriorated o-rings and gaskets. After that it's not worth the time.
