Horn won't stop blowing

Ok, I have had this problem since I bought the car this summer but have finally gotten to where I have some time to mess with it. While working on my door lock issue today and installed a new lock in my trunk I decided to give this problem a shot.

I have checked relays, fuses, and now have disabled the factory alarm and it still goes off when I connect the wires to the horn.

Any ideas????

Thanks in advance.

Disarm for the alarm or is it something else? You can't start a thread until you have 15 posts I think unless you make a donation.

well the aftermarket alarm has a factory disarm wire for when you press unlock.. and it supplies a negative trigger. if the alarm does not see this the factory alarm will set off the cars horn...get it?

otherwise is the alarm puts out a constant negative trigger to the horn then the module is shot. you can always test the wire to the horn and use a relay,
best way to see if the horn works correct is unplug the aftermarket alarm, and press the horn on the car. if it work then your issue is at the alarm module.

the factory alarm disarm wire should be to the right of the steering column at the black box under the drivers side dash. iirc

How did you disable the factory alarm? If you unplug the actual factory alarm box in the dash, there is literally no way to set the alarm off. Either you have something goofy going on with an aftermarket unit somehow being intertwined or you didn't fully disable/unplug it and/or unplugged the wrong thing.

if you unplug that box your door locks wont work.

the alarm arms and disarms when the security light goes on/shuts off..
i wired my viper to the alarm arm and disarm wires, so when i lock the doors the cars factory alarm and viper alarm both arm.

you HAVE to make sure you have the correct disarm wire hooked up..

if your aftermarket alarm is a directed electronics device the disarm wire should be a light green/black stripe wire.

Yes they will. I'm not talking about the door lock timer...

Lots of stuff to sort through.

First off, I don't have an aftermarket alarm so none of that applies.

I unpluged the harness under the steering wheel on the box to disarm. From what I have read that should be enough to completely take that out of the possibilities.

I will have to check the switch in the wheel I guess. Not sure how to do that so I will dig out the service manual and get to looking.

is your horn button stuck?

lol oops, didn't notice the duplicate.
you should be able to rip the horn pad off to check. don't rip too hard, or you can damage the wire.
check the fsm, interior section regarding wheel removal.

I believe something is stuck as when I plug the wires into the horn it blows constantly, not pulsing like an alarm.

you wouldn't happen to have punched your steering wheel, prior to all this starting would you? I had the same problem, came out to the parking lot, horn was blaring. I ended up swapping an s13 wheel, and haven't had the problem since.

No, it did it when I bought it. Just left it unplugged until now.

I just took the steering wheel cover off and took the switch part out and bent the connectors out some. It did look as if they have been touching, not sure if all 4 aren't supposed to touch or if it is just 2 of the 4.

Unfortunately, due to my other issue I am fixing my battery is dead. I am letting my jump-start thing charge and I will give it a shot in the morning. I will keep everyone posted and post pictures if it fixes it.

Going to work on a how-to for window regulator replacement as I just did that also.

Can you locate horn relay: FSM EL-166, pull it out and check if it's stuck?

Didn't see your post - you can look into relay later if the switch thing won't help.

If that is the one by the battery, I have swapped it out with another to double-check it and the replacement does it also.

Good, it was long shot but easy check before you went to the wheel. I think only switch and wire between the switch and relay pin are left. The switch supplies ground to relay when pressed so either it was stuck or the wire between switch and relay touches the ground. I'd connect the battery and while having switch disassembled (to make sure it is not closed) connect the horn. If it still blows - I'd conclude that wire after switch is shorted to the ground somewhere. If not - it was the switch fault.

If that doesn't fix it, disconnect battery again and then disconnect the connector(s) for the spiral cable. that will isolate it to before or after/inside the steering column/ horn switch pad.

It shoudl be pretty easy to hunt down with a multimeter or test light.

Turns out that Ben was on the right track. Now that I have a charged battery I went out and played around with the switch and the previous owner must have used to omuch force or something and caused it to stick. Unfortunately while messing with it I did break one of the clips on the plastic cover for the switch, but hopefully it isn't anything crazy glue can't fix. I put the relay in and the horn is not blowing constantly. When I touch the contacts on the switch it works as it should.

You will know how successful I am with the glue as you might see a post in the FS area looking for one later today.

Thanks for the ideas folks.
