Hectic, please do let me know what brand that bearing is. I need to start shopping around for a tranny shop. The one place I had quote me said $500 parts and labor. Not too bad, but I would like to check with some other places first before pulling the trigger.
That's what I did on mine as well, and it's still working fine,,,

yep.. too stiff and it might gouge the metal. i had to resort to this method when doing my brother's oil pump gasket.. but i got lucky i guess, cuz it didn't leak after i put it back together.

Thought I would be able to start it yesterday, alternator grounding bolt broke off while tightening it, but I was able to extract the screw and find a new bolt after removing the alternator. Too busy to work on it today, but tomorrow I hope to start it once the alternator is reinstalled.

Quick question: There is a vacuum line coming off the corner of the intake manifold closest to the passenger side and the firewall. There is a check valve in the line. Which way is it supposed to go? Should it block air trying to flow into the intake plenum or away from it?

I would think the correct answer is away, but I want to be sure.

you want engine to suck air in, not go out. orient check valve so it does that.

Update on how it's runnin':

All things considered, it is doing pretty well...Three small issues tho:

1) It has a miss ONLY at idle. It runs great when I step on it. I replaced the spark plugs, added 1/3 bottle of BG44K to 1/3 tank of gas and ran it out, then filled it up and added a full bottle. We will see if the miss goes away after I run this tank of gas through it.

2) Small coolant leak where a metal connection w/ 2 bolts mates up below the intake manifold. I put some red RTV on it when I put it back together, but that isn't stopping it from leaking. Maybe I tightened the bolts down too much. Looks like I will have to pull the manifold to get to it and reseal it...D'oh!

3) I have a noise coming from one of the belts. I need to poke around and figure out exactly where it is coming from. It is either the P/S pump idler pulley being worn out or the timing belt being too loose. That would suck, since I followed the factory procedure to a "T" when putting it back together. Oh well, what's a few more hours of labor?

The car is running better now that some of the BG44K has been through the fuel system and I found my coolant leak is not where I originally thought it was. Rather, it was a clamp that I had forgotten to tighten, so now she is running like a champ! Great timing, since my Corvette has started to run rich and will be going to the shop for a few days...
