Brake options that will fit under a 16" wheel?

I have the wheels tha I want and they are 16s. I know most of the common BBKs require a 17 or bigger. Do I have any options with 16" wheels? I already have Z31 rotors in the rear, I also have SS lines that I am going to install. Should I just get some Hawk HPS pads and call it a day or are there options? I have 2 sets of J30 calipers that I can use if they would really offer any improvement. Let me know what you guys know or think. Thanks for any help.

the 5.5gen brake kit i made should fit under 16's since the 5.5gen GXE had 16's. if you are not in a massive hurry my 5.5gen kit is going to be for sale (as the car is being parted out) in feb or march. As many problems as my 3g had, the one thing it did well till the very end was stop.

How common are Z32s over in the USA?
Their calipers and rotors off the turbo models are the same as R32 GTR / R33 GTST which is what I did on my Ceffy, and it's the best brake upgrade I ever did. 4 pot fronts and 2 pot rears makes a massive difference.
Not sure how the 300zx / Skyline brake cylinders compare to the J30 cylinders though...you might get a spongy feel in the pedal.

Does that stop much better than stock? How much work was required to make the 5.5 gen stuff fit?

Z32 stuff is not rare, but I know it takes modifications to make it fit.

Has anyone done this on their third gen? I know Z32 calipers and cobra rotors is a popular set up but I cannot fit that big of rotor under my wheels. With out adding the larger rotor is there a point of me switching my calipers?

What modifications? I test fitted a caliper to my Maxima knuckle the other day, went on with no drama's.
The Z32 rotors will fit under 16"

remove all your stock brake crap
bore the holes on the hub out to 14mm or 9/16"
install 5.5gen stuff just like you would normally

if you want to buy my hubs with the brakes already on them you can, i just need a little more time cuz i'm about to go on a business trip for a few weeks.

i wouldn't call it a "track kit" improvement (compared to say, the z32 brakes with 6g or cobra rotors) but it is a perfect compliment to the z31 rear brake upgrade (which you already have, right?) and my car stopped a heck of a lot better than it did before i started my brake upgrades. I noticed the improvement from the front brakes more than i did from the rears once the pads broke in (i got used pads but new rotors.. took a while for them to match up).

I am not exactly sure but I thought something needed to be grinded/milled down...I am probably thinking of the cobra rotor set up.

Are the 5.5 gen rotors bigger? Are the calipers still single piston?

I have access to a set of Z32 front rotors for free and I already have J30 calipers. Has anyone tried this set ups? Z32 front rotors and J30 calipers? Just curious since I would only need to buy pads to make this one happen.

single piston but larger rotor. 11.65" vs 11.05" stockers. basically you get more leverage against the rotor when the rotor is larger. that's why people that roll on 24's with stock brakes are idiots cuz the wheels have to much leverage over the brakes.

Z32 rotors with J30 calipers wont work I don't think
Other way around will...the Z32 caliper can accomidate its own (Z32) rotor, or J30 rotor (in this case, its obviously only going to chew through half the brake pad, not the whole thing).
Z32 rotors are 296mm + 297mm ... not sure on thickness, do a Google Search...these are bigger than J30 I believe.

now ben, i assume you have good caliper clearance on your current wheels? which are 16's right? cuz the caliper clearance on the 5.5's is probably the same but of course having some breathing room is always good.

I went with the Q45 setup awhile back and have been very happy with it. 1st Gen Q45 (or J30) 2-piston calipers will bolt right up. All you have to do is get some matching rotors and have 4-6 (IIRC) mm machined off the OD. The rotors are twice as thick as stock, so there is much more material available for heat dissipation. You will also have to get rid of the dust shields.
