lucky clutch

so recently i was gonna get outside in the kinda frigid air and try and replace the clutch kit on my SE...but ended up coming across a friend that teaches manual transmission work at the nearby college...and he had a friend who needed to test out of a portion of the class and he asked if he could use my car to do a clutch replacement in so the guy can test out...now the teacher vouched for this guy knowing these maximas to the T lol so i said yeah...so my car goes in the shop today to have the clutch replaced...rear main seal replaced...and the flywheel resurfaced...all in all this will cost me 175 cause the teacher said to atleast offer the guy something for the labor hes gonna be puttin into the car and the benefit im getting out of it...now org. gurus do you think this is a good deal to swap out for the experience i couldve gained by doing it myself?? cuz unfortunately i wasnt gonna replace rear main seal or get the flywheel resurfaced?

To give the experience to the student will allow him to make money in the future..your helping him out...im pretty sure your going to have your max until it needs a clutch again..right? So then you can experience the job then. And 175 aint a bad deal...Ask them if they can get a RS5F5OA tranny(5spd) as Im in need of one with low mileage.

The gift of knowledge is the best you can ever give. I would have tried to sit in that day though, then you would have learned just as much, if not more, than you would have if you did the work yourself. An experienced hand on your Max is never a bad thing and for the price you paid, I'd say you got a sweet deal.

i agree with you on that one but still yeah im disappointed cause the school seein as im not a student wont let me sit in on it while its getting done...but i mean if i were to pay a shop to do it i would be lookin at anywhere from 400-700 bucks depending on the shop...some are decently priced then some i just give them the "bird" as im walkin out lol

heh.. well the car already has well over 300k miles on it.... you really think it's gonna last long enough to need another clutch? if so he might have the highest mileage 3rd gen on the whole org by that time!

When I was in college, I paid to get my teeth cleaned. I think it was like $20. I don't know who got the money, but it was a good deal to me. If I go to my dentist right now, I think they charge $150 or something to do the same thing.

I think $175 sounds like a good deal for a clutch install and it will be supervised work, so the instructor should be able to oversee the operation. I would do that for sure if I needed my clutch replaced.

lol caped cadaver...so what i might have high mileage on my Max...but its got a rebuilt tranny and a motor with 140k on it...so yeah i might be up there next time i need another clutch..but come to find out my flywheel was warped in 2 different places and my rear main oil seal was SHOT lol so the flywheel got resurfaced and oil seal replaced...now my damn driver rear brake caliper is leaking...oh the joys of owning an older model car are so wonderful lol
