got new stereo, few questions

matt93SE will prolly be able to answer this one. Ok, clarion pro audio head unit 40X4, really nice but not too powerful (at least not rated too powerful) anyway, that, 2 sony Xplode 200W 6X9's, and 2 Xplode 180W 6 1/2's. Ok, i totally just forgot the whole bose thing. i used the 6x9 brackets, but i had to modify the front one to get the 6 1/2 in. ne way, IT sounds GREAT! i mean really good. moves my mirror. but sometimes when i really crank it up when i'm driving, it'll crackle instead of putting out bass. I don't mean distort, but it'll crack, and sometimes sorta skip (with radio too). i was thinking maybe i had a problem with the polarity backwards on the speakers. . . i can't think of anything else. all my connections should be good. I"m going to pull it tomorrow and redo the ones by the head unit. the ones on the speakers are soldered. . . .any ideas? thanks! oh, still have both those bose head units, amps, and speakers for sale!

this happened with my old deck, and still does with my new one. the first was 45x4 (maybe 40x4, dont really remember). anyway, the volume went up to 80, but anything above 75 would sound really really bad. the 5.25"s would crackle and the highs would distort, the 6x9s would "pop" instead of putting out bass. anyway, i got a new deck (pioneer premier 630, 50x4) and it doesnt have any trouble making the same speakers louder. however, when i turn the volume past 58 (it goes to 61) it sounds like it did with the first deck, only louder.

my only conclusion is this: you're maxing out the internal amp on the head unit and its distorting/crackling/popping/etc...
solution: get an amp for the front speakers. (i'm doin this when i get new fronts..powering 6.5" diamond audio M3 w/RF 250a2, hopefully it sounds good)

hope this helps.
