amber 1157 bulb upgrade?
amber 1157 bulb upgrade?
Anyone know where I can get an 1157 style bulb to better match the orange (not amber) color similar to the 4Runner's parking lights? If you've seen one at night before, you know what I'm talking about. As much as I'd love to go LED, almost no LED is going to diffuse as well as an incandescent. This pic below isn't the best/doesn't really highlight my point, but you get the idea to compare it to mine... thx

Ive been running an amber 1157 bulb in my corner lights and rewired it to be fully bright.. its not nearly as orange as a 3457A apparently which is the bulb in the front bumper running lights on the 98-02 Trans ams for example, since that car has the same situation as us - amber bulb behind a clear lense. Looks like that 4Runner uses a 4157NA amber bulb behind a clear lense. My Camaro (and all of them up to 2002) had a clear bulb behind an amber lense. Did you rewire the bumper/turn signal lights to light up steady or did you just happen to snap the picture when youre hazards were blinking on?
Not to slightly threadjack - but Maximan, do you remember how you did the re-wire to make the corners fully bright? I would like to do the same, but can't remember how to do it, and Craig's site is long gone. I posted a thread here but nobody remembered/helped
i actually printed out all of his rewire instructions back around 2002, i could explain how i did it/which wire etc but just looking at craigs procedure will be easier since thats what i used years ago to do it. ill have to dig out the papers in my file drawer, i can scan it and maybe post it somewhere, then people can have it again.
I dont think there was anything on how to rewire the bumper lights to illuminate steady and then flash as normal with the turn signals/hazards. If Dayle97SE did in fact do it then maybe he can explain, otherwise i was thinking of studying and comparing the wiring on my camaro since the front signal lights on that car behave exactly how i want it to be on the maxima

I used to have mine wired where the 1157 would stay bright AND the 194 corner bulbs and bumper lights would blink alternately. Ideally, I'd like to have this setup again. I'd really like to have the 194 blink because the 3rd gen really has no side blinker mechanism to alert idiots on either side of you that you're merging/changing lanes.
Having the 1157 stay bright, the bumper lights stay on AND having the 194 blink alternately with the bumper lights would be perfect.
Anyway, yeah, I'd love if you could post up some scans! I'm friends with Craig on Facebook, I should ask that SOB if he by any chance has "hard" copies of any of his old write-ups and stuff. He probably doesn't care at this point though since he's long out of the 3rd gen game

On night some fools was pacing as fast as I was when I had my right blinker on for I while, so I started to toggle the right signal. It look like I was flashing High beams on him. He got the message and let me through.
