My buddy has a 3rd gen max and he's telling me he's got stuttering when he accelerates. Plugs and wires have been changed and he says that the stutter is a little worse. Had some oil on the plugs so I figure his valve gasket is shot. But that wouldn't cause stutter. Was thinking possibly O2 but he has no CEL. I was hoping someone may have a solution or specific direction I should have him check. I appreciate the help.

What has he looked at so far? Check ECU 4 any fault codes yet, a good place 2 start.

 

Is it a vg30e or a ve30de? Taking it from the word wires it's vg30e. Check maf distributor timing and the rpm signal wire. Fuel filter. The list goes on first look at those

 

Check your injectors to see if any are bad.

 

I just went through this, after checking the fuel,pressure,did a full tune up and it would bog,mis-fire(especially under hard acceleration) i found up it was the sesnor in the distributor so I got a used dist n it was running like new again. also I checked the ignition module and it was good as well.
