lol i looked at that months ago before mine was getting changed

IIRC mine was done last in 2001 and i was 11,000km away early this year from needing it done. i got it done along with all the other suspension/engine work done in July and August thinking the belt would be beat to hell but the guy said it would have lasted 30-40,000km more lol. the teeth were just a bit rounded

thread title win BTW

out of curiosity when a timing belt snaps, is it a loud pop or a quiet one?

It is the sound of your dreams crushing and dying. There is no mistaking it and if you heard a quiet pop that you think is your timing belt but you aren't sure then it probably isn't, but you can always just release the timing belt cover and look if your unsure. (take your driver's side wheel off, passenger side US and get to it from there is easiest.

no i was just curious, i was wondering if it was a really loud pop like a balloon popping a foot from your face or just a little thud

I would think the sound of valves hitting the pistons would make a louder sound than the timing belt snapping....

I had my timing belt break on me once. No bad sounds, no nothing, the car just died. I bought a new belt, reset the shafts and put the new belt on. Ran perfectly fine afterwards.
