Tutorial on installing lowering springs?

Tutorial on installing lowering springs?

Well... i searched google and the forum looking for a tutorial on how to install lowering springs but came up with nothing.

So.. my new springs should be coming in the mail in the next few days and I think im going to try to install them myself.

Is there anyone that would be willing to help me through the process? Or tell me exactly what I will need for this?

Get or rent from auto parts store a spring compressor. http://japanesenostalgiccar.com/blog...hocks-install/

Here save this. It also shows how to do the front and rear struts for if you ever want to go aftermarket later on. Our rear struts are constructed about the same (catridges).

yep rent a spring compressor or get one on Ebay

if you have lots of rusty suspension parts, be prepared to have lots of fun

im in lynnwood wa and have the tools and the fsm book have done this job to 3x 3rd gens
though ive been real lazy lately(ive even been neglecting my own)
im more down to hang out and loan my tools and advice while drinking beer
and avoiding the dirty grunt work

well that would be alot less stressful on my part!
thanks alot, im probably going to wait until i get some new struts so i can do it all together but i will definately pm you when that time comes.

I think i remember calling sprint springs and asking
which side goes up ,as in the springs would fit either way besides the fronts being obviously thicker and bigger circumference

i think they told me the tighter wound side went to the bottom spring perch(**EDIT** I found my original instruction sheet from sprint
and the tighter wound side goes to the top spring perch,im pretty
sure i had this sheet back when i installed my springs,its ok)


anyone familiar with this,are all drop springs like this?

my first 92 gxe came with all 4 of the tokico blue shocks,
but they were probaly at least a few years old already
so i had them on the gxe from 2001-2005 (in 2002 i bought sprint
springs since they were the lowest)then in 2005-ish i swapped it over
to my 91se and am still on them,last year i finally got the camber bolts
for the front strut to knuckle ftw these are good for def. less tire wear
more tire footprint ,better steering.i just set them all the way the good direction lol.

as far as the old **** tokicos go,when i added the springs to gxe in 2002
they seemed ok as in the pistons had resistance both ways, stayed up
and no oil leaks pistons not scratched etc.(also i got new dustboots)

then in 2005-ish when i swapped it over to my 91se one rear was obviously
blown -leaking oil, piston resting in down position but the others still
about the same as 2002's test so i bought one rear for like 80 bux i think
and threw in on my drivers side (the dustboots were still good)

Its a great ride on smooth roads but the cracks and holes that went supposed
to be there ruin it .I guess im "taking the rough side of the mountain "

I have Sprint and it doesn't matter which direction is up. Just make sure the wider are on the front and narrower are on the rear.

As far as I remember, the tighter wound coils usually go toward the top. I know my Intrax are installed this way, going on 9 years now

I also have Sprint spring. But on new Autozone struts (previous owner bought and installed them.) I think with stiffer struts the ride would be a lot better, but smooth roads it rides fine. I actually wish it was a little lower? Hahaha that would be pushing it tho. But hey if you arent pushing the limits, you arent trying IMO

Sprint springs + autozone struts = blown struts. Im sorry but that 2.2" drop can not be held well with factory type struts. Im on eibach 1.2" drops and for the time being til i can source a good set of struts i have autozone brand Gabriel ultras but i am not expecting them to take the added pressure from lowering springs for to long before they give out.


also you don't need a tutorial to change springs or struts lmfao it's not hard nor rocket science. Well atleast those mechanically competent.
