A shame, the 3rd Generation looks so much better than the 5.5th Generation.

I guess every one in a while, we all have to take a step back.

Good luck!

Make it a habit to start checking your engine oil. Mine was a oil burner so I threw out the engine and since I was at it, I threw out the gearbox as well. The torque went up and the third gear crunch went away. No more oil burning .

Why do you have to get rid of your 3rdgen? I'd keep it... 2 Maxima's are better than 1.

wtf???

are you serious???

...as a former 3rd Gen owner i have the HIGHEST respect for the 3rd gen (lots of memories) , but in no way can a nicely done 3rd gen beat the smoothed out lines of a 5-5.5 gen....

Meh good riddens seems only the true strong servive. Im VE30DE best bodystyle designed by Nissan of the maximas. Also Nissan in 95 was at the brink of bankruptcy and that was the decline of alot of Nissan good design style. Til renault bought something like 33% to save them from bankruptcy. Also if it wasn't for the VE30DE none of the preceding maximas have variable valve timing or C.O.P. . Granted first Nissan to have vvt was in 86 in the 300zx. Wikipidea'd it lol. which also beat Honda to be the first Japanese car to use "V-tec" granted Nissan didn't call it V-tec. Hondas first V-tec motor was in 1990 Honda NSX. When it was a race track car the year before mass production of the Honda NSX in Japan and Acura NSX in the states.

Hope you picked up a nice 5.5gen! I think in looking at the progression of styles from even the original 1st gen, the changes made sense. The 5/5.5 gens absolutely fit into what a Maxima should be in terms of styling (Don't know what they were thinking in 6th and 7th gens).

Lots of easy power adders with the 5.5 (just got the NWP vias block plate and spacers myself).

Of course, my 5.5 is more my daily driver. My '89 turbo is now me "weekend toy."

I want to hear from the people who have owned or who currently owns more than one generation of Maxima since they're most likely to be able to offer a much more educated response to this debacle. I myself have owned/ own 3rd, 4th and 5.5th. I am able to understand the OP's excitement at the 5.5th power and response. All three satisfy some aspect of my car and driver appeal but if I were to chose one it would be the ....gen . And as you can see the OP has already moved along to the other room. I sometimes go there myself. But now his screen name makes no sense.

I own a GXE 3rd gen and SE 4th gen. The 4th gen has more miles than the 3rd (152k vs 144k). The 4th gen is clearly the better designed, more reliable and funner car to drive, but I really like the styling of the 3rd gen, especially the rear.

I never liked the rear lights of the 5th gen, but I understand the strength is really with the engine. I'd pass on the 6th gen, but like the style of the latest model.

I imagine most people trade up due to not wanting to spend so many weekends working on the older models...certainly understandable.

The difference in feel between the 3rd and the 4th is the same from 4th to 5.5th. Reliability goes to my 97SE. Sexiness goes to my 1990 VE5.

3Rd gen and 4th gen both have the same factory hp and torque. There is no difference from the two. Besides the fact 92-94 had the VE30DE with V.V.T. Where as the VQ30DE doesn't have V.V.T. Also 3rd gens don't have a GLE model class.

It's so easy to do a 3.5 swap on a 4th gen...everybody and their momma is doing it over on the other forum. So it is the most upgradable of them all.

Augustus i really gave a crap bout the VQ35DE. Im proud to own and tune VE30DE motors. Also i rather tune OBD I over OBD II. Lastly all generations after the 3rd gen imo are ugly. Im sorry rounded maximas are just not interesting. I'll do a complete swap over to rwd or awd RB26DETT. Before i drop in another newer Maxima engine.

I have a nice VQ35DE sitting in the shed...it could find it's way into a 3rd gen . Turbo it and claim the title of the fastest 3rd gen .

Augustus just do it since you saying you gonna claim fastest. Rule number one of being a part of this forum is do it first or be flamed for posting such a claim. What and how im doing my car i don't even ask for help or insight from most on this forum. I just call my dealership tech friends and get correct answers from them. I've learned only way to not get flamed on here is do it first and then post pictures and information on what you did. Matt Danny and many others will flame those talking out there Anus.

The challenge is the fun part. Let's see if I can find a good shell because my VE will not be sacrificed.

The 3rdgen is my favorite body style but I believe the Max jumped up into another category with the 6thgen. If you disagree with my opinion then just take a look at some of the tricked out/boosted 6thgens... there ****een Sick!!! The 5.5gens heart is tough but I'm not feelin' the rear of them but still a nice ride, in general I like Nissan/Infiniti.

here's the thing...people all claim to do this and that. come up with a lot of talk. about 90% of the time it's just that...TALK. no one is doing anything but surfing ebay for parts and collecting their wish list. at the end of the day they either sell it or part it out. this is after countless hours and threads about how and what's best to do and etc etc. all that time..wasted.

that's where the mentality of just do it and stop talking about it came from.

if you want to ask for help you can...that's fine. but do a little research on your end. don't make us spoon feed it for you.

Well, fortunately or unfortunately, there's not even anything going on in the 3rd gen section to flame. Nobody to do the flaming. Nobody to flame. It's all completely dead now.

yup but even though the forum for us is dead almost its nice to have peace instead of people running off new comers. I've been very busy with replacing so much suspension parts. Once done and my computer is back up ill post all the pics of what I've been up to. Including clutch lines and cylinders replacements as we as valve cover gaskets intake manifold gaskets and injector orings and seats. Been busy while my maxima has down time replacing alot of neglected parts.

That's because the people who actually make their ideas materialize, don't post it until it's finished, or at least presentable. That's a good thing, nothing worse than threads that are more like blogs. "Hey guys these are all my plans, I will keep this updated when I actually do some of the stuff".

The VE only needs a paint job at this point...it's my daily.
