Brake Mod

Anybody ever tried the G35 dual piston caliper with 2004 Maxima rotor on the 3rd gen...it seems like a great combo.

Im sure it should be the same thing as the Z32 combo that we have just that they look sleeker.

I found a pair of 6th gen caliper with brackets for $60 so I'm going with that.

So you're doing 6th gen calipers and rotors?

6th Gen calipers and rotors up front and Z31 rotors in the back. I have almost everything I need already.

Keep us up to date. Sounds like it could be a cheap and effective mod.

Just do z32 BBK I'm doing that but instead of Z32 calipers I'm gonna be using skyline gtr 34 calipers.

Just hit the jy and find a se and take the spindle and strut housing assembly as well as calipers and be ready to have fun with brake lines and the emergency brake cable since the rear calipers have built in emergency brake assembly.

Too late I bought everything already...come Spring I'm replacing the entire steering system, drivetrain, all calipers, rotors and ebrake cables. Then it's engine time.... Pics?

Since your all on the topic of brake upgrades I wanted to post in...I'm looking at wheels right now for my 3rdgen and want to upgrade the brakes mostly for looks. My braking system is in excellent shape but wouldn't look that good with some of the wheels I've wanted to buy. I'm looking to do the easiest(meaning easiest parts available) mod possible. Is there a particular write that maybe I missed? Appreciate any suggestions.

Haven't got to the BBK yet dont have alot of hp needing a better braking system yet plus my calipers I'm going to get have to come all the way from japan. If I'm not mistaken brembo used to offer a skyline gtr BBK for the third gens but that also was like eight years ago when I first got into maximas.

Nice cheap mod, the extra money is going into tightening up my biatch. Just picked up a set of low mileage 4th gen injectors over in the 4th gen classified, next up is all the O rings and insulators, fuel injection hoses and the (14) clamps.

But if on a budget, the 6th gen swap is probably the cheapest. But any upgrade should include a bigger rotor no matter what calipers you use. that seems to be the one factor in better braking (vs trying to use a caliper with more piston area)

When I do my BBK I'm going to buy 2004 maxima aftermarket rotors with matts z32 calipers bracket extenders and nissan skyline GT-R 34 calipers.

Dude does it look like it bothers me? I have people that cnc machine so that is no worry to me. lol I have a spare parts car so I have the spindles to take off and take them to my cnc machinist. Matt's brackets aren't one of a kind.before matt jeff was making them.

Cost me like $150 for everything shipped. Just need to go to the hardware store and grab a few bolts. It's a nice simple mod that let's you wear 12.6" rotors and beef up your brakes without breaking the bank.

Yo A M, you seem like you have quite a bit of experience with modifying our brakes so I'm directing this question to you or anyone else also. Anyone ever hooked up Q45 brake calipers/rotors/pads to a 3rdgen?

Mine are alot less complicated than Matt's. I'm not sure why you are going out of your way to use Japanese calipers when the 3 piston 300Z 30mm versions are just fine.

And you can put Q45 calpers on. With stock Q rotors that are milled down, with my brackets and 13" cobra rotors.

I know Jeff did. I have a set. I found out recently that the two kits are completely different. One for 13" rotors and the other is 6th gen rotors. One extends the caliper out further than the other kit. But you probably know this already seeing how you've done your research. This one some how slipped by me.

Thanks, I asked cause somebody was selling there Q45 brake set up and was thinking about using. Changing the rear drums out is gonna suck though, it's weird that my Max came with all the options possible for that year but all wheel disc. I've replace everything possible on them and got premium pads but the rear drum won't look right with a set of after market rims.

Get a 1989-91SE rear strut assembly, 1992-94SE ebrake cables and calipers, 1986 Z31 rotors...

See jeff my thing is will your brackets allow for the z32 calipers to fit correctly over the 2004 nissan maxima rotors becuase the 2004 are more hub centric then mustang cobra rotors. Less movement where the wheel studs go through the holes in the rotors. In other words less slop in gap between wheel stud and rotor stud hole. anyways how much you selling your brackets for?

If you have a GXE that would've been one of the things you would'nt have received. SE's only.

No they won't. I already tried that route. The caliper only grips the edge of the 6th gen caliper.

Well then ill just go the route of getting my skyline gtr 34 calipers and have a machine shop make me my brackets that work with gtr calipers. Not a big deal to me really.

Nope. If you use the cobra rotors redrilled to the Nissan stud size, the fit it good. Automax sells the cobra rotors this way. $60 shipped

Eh, I've been running Jeff's BBK for 5-6 years now with non-re-drilled rotors. I haven't had any problems at all in terms of it being "sloppy". Yeah I mean the stud holes are a tad bigger than the studs but it's made absolutely tangible difference in terms of braking ability or braking feel
