Trunk does not open

The key never worked for the trunk on my Maxima.

Always had to use the button on the drivers side door.

Now the button will not open it. I can hear it click, but it is obviously not tripping the latch.

I'm thinking that I'll have to try to get in to the trunk via the back seat???

Any input, throughts or better ideas??

On another note, did install new front brake pads and rotors last weekend. Took about an hour, some of the easiest I've ever done.

Going to replace the rear shoes today, if all goes well.

Been driving the car 80+ miles a day to work and back, so far so good.

Does not really matter if I go 65 or 80, 24-25 MPG seems to be what it gets.

Great car

Did you try having some one pull up on trunk door while you push release button? It just might have gotten stuck, if you hear it clicking then it should still work. You key doesn't work with trunk cause it's probably the valet key, the valet key only works on drivers door and ignition.

Thanks for the reply -

Yes, we tried pulling and pushing on the trunk. Sounds like the solenoid is working, maybe a linkage came off?

Thanks for the tip on the key - I think my wife has another, might be a copy of the one I have though - we may not have the original

If you can climb into the trunk through the back seat. Look for the latch that can be slid over to make the trunk pop unable to be used. It might of slid over and that is why you can't pop trunk.

Thank you - that is exactly what it was.

I removed the seat cushion, then the back. Next, the insulator/trim and then the stuff my wife (culprit?) had put in the trunk.

Looked in, saw the latch you mentioned, flipped it and hit the button - yahoo!

I'd like to try and get the right key that opens everything, do you or does anyone know if Nissan can order them from the VIN?

On another note, had to hit three parts stores to find one that stocked rear brake shoes. And when they brought them up to me, they were covered in dust, obviously not a good selling item.

Got home, pulled the shoes (inserted 8x1.25mm bolts in the holes to get the drums off).

Old shoes appeared to have more lining that the new ones, so I cleaned them up, adjusted them (they needed it, I need to back up more) and then bled the rear brakes (did the fronts last weekend).

What a wonderful car to work on!

Good to hear you got it open, sucks you had to do the hard way. Anyway about the keys, you can call or got to your local Nissan Dealer with your VIN and they should be able to produce/get/make all three keys for you(trunk key, valet key and Master key).

Glad my information helped you and was the right one. Dealer can get you all the keys by VIN.

Stopped at the dealer in Columbia MO and they cut me a key (for free, thank you!) but it was not the master key. They said it had a 99% chance of working, work it does, but it still does not open the trunk.

They told me they can only go back to 1999, no earlier, for codes to cut a master key.

Oh well, I tried!

Maybe another dealer...

Do what I did. Take the lock cyl out of the trunk and to a locksmith with the key you want to work. They replaced the tumbles in mine and it hasn't stopped yet.
